Low Cost Luggage Storage Options in UK train stations

We are soon traveling to UK and have a day in Edinburgh and a day in London where we would ordinarily leave our bags at the train station for the day while we visit the city until our night train leaves. But Ouch the cost for our family to leave their bags will be a minimum of 60 pounds each day! Seems like the Excess Baggage Company has quite a monopoly going in the UK. Any lower cost alternatives out there? Considering a cheap hotel room for the day! :) Thanks for your assist!

Train stations have manned facilities only which are going to cost more to operate than a set of lockers. The reason - past terrorism. Bags are Xray'd etc.

I think the facilities at Victoria coach station run for (or maybe by) TfL are somewhat cheaper than the London railway stations. Details here.

Some attractions will store 'reasonable' luggage, but if you are talking about £60 a day in storage then you must have 6 items.

In Edinburgh you could use the lockers in the Bus station in St Andrews Square about a 5 minute walk from the train station. Can't remember the price but I know it is a lot cheaper than the train station.

And just to confirm, you are not sleeping in either city the night before at a hotel that would hold the bags? With more people renting apartments, I guess that's not always offered, as well as if coming from another town.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the advice - I think we will have 6-7 bags for the 5 of us to store - I will look into the bus station - coming in & going out by train so we wouldn't have a hotel to use.
