Looking for hotel advice for a 5 day family trip to London. Hilton preferable.
Seems to be a lot of Hiltons. Any location suggestions? First time ever in London. Family of 5.
Want to sight see and be within walking distance of restaurant and pubs. Seeing new Harry Potter play.
Hurry up, there is a winter sale going on for Hilton that ends on Jan. 31st. There are a number of locations in London. You don't give a budget, but look at their website. If you still want input, check out the hotel reviews on Trip Advisor for more info.
We've stayed at Hilton Metropole and Hilton Paddington. The Paddington hotel has a grocery store in the lower level. Both are close to tube stops as well as bus stops.
With 5 people I would rent a flat for the 5 days, plenty of hotel type apts. in London that are close to tube line plus you have a kitchen if you don't want to eat out after long days of touring, we just found it give extra room and options for our family when traveling, We got a good deal on the Dolphin House Apts through British Air and we just stayed at Go Native Monument which is all apt. type lodging with a front desk that was very helpful and very close to Monument tube plus a small food market near by to get all we needed.
I just booked the Conrad in London for August using points. I have never stayed there but the location looks great as it's within walking distance of Buckingham Palace and Westminster plus there is a tube stop (St. James Park) across the street. It was the priciest Hilton I looked at but using points eased my pain! With a family of 5, you will likely need two rooms or a suite. That will get expensive very fast! I would look at renting a flat as Barbara has suggested.
Hilton London Hyde Park is in a great location, on Bayswater Road, where many buses go right by the front door, taking you to the tourist locations. Queensway tube station is right out the front door. Near Paddington Station. View of Hyde Park out the front windows.

Hilton London Paddington is connected to Paddington Station, which is convenient if you are arriving into Heathrow Airport and traveling into Paddington Station.

Doubletree by Hilton London Victoria Station is in a great location, as buses and tube access are right outside the front door.

Doubletree by Hilton Hotel-Tower Of London is located in "The City" near Tower Bridge, Tower Of London, and St. Paul's.

The tube and bus systems in London make transportation so easy, you could choose any Hilton in London, and it would be convenient for sightseeing.
Doubletree by Hilton London West End is near Covent Garden (for restaurants), the theatres, and near Bloomsbury and the British Museum.

The Waldorf Hilton in Covent Garden, is located near restaurants in Covent Garden, and walking distance to the theatre district. It is the most expensive of the ones I've named so far. But very centrally located.

Any of the Hiltons I've posted would be suitable for your family. All are near restaurants and good transportation; tube, buses.
You may want to explore their websites, and determine if any of these hotels have connecting rooms for your family. Since you will be seeing the Harry Potter play, if you wish to be near the theatre for that, look closely at the last two hotels. Covent Garden is an area with lots of good restaurants, plus it is centrally located, with good transportation for sightseeing.
We stayed at the Double Tree Westminister (a Hilton property) a few years ago. It is within walking distance of Parliament and Westminister Abbey, Big Ben, etc. We could see a tiny bit of the Thames, from our window. The Thames is directly behind the hotel. I understand there is construction near the hotel. I don't know if that is impacting the hotel. Our room price included breakfast. We didn't care for the café for dinner though. The menu was very limited. We used Hilton Hotel points for our 10 night stay.
My wife and I stayed at the Double Tree Victoria Station for five nights on our 2013 England trip, and I recommend it highly. (I save up my Hilton points for stays in places like London that are very expensive on accommodations. What a luxury to have a business-class hotel room in London!)
We stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton-Tower of London on points when it was just the two of us back in October 2014. It was a very clean, bright, spacious hotel. Breakfast was good, restaurant in hotel was decent, and the Tower Hill Tube stop was about a 5-7 minute walk. It was very easy to get to and from everywhere we went.
We are traveling as a family of five in March and will be staying at the Waldorf Hilton London based on it's location, restaurants, and room availability. We will be staying there on points as well.
I also agree with the other posters who mentioned checking out Flyertalk and reading their Hilton London threads. There is a thread for every Hilton in London with lots of advice and recent room reviews.
Stayed at the Hotel Metropole for 1 night. Not a fan of Hilton but understand you are. That said please note that the cost of wifi there is criminal. So if you choose to stay there make your way across the road to the COSTA coffee and read your emails there. Free wifi, great coffee. I found the hotel void of any charm and nothing about it says you are in London. In fact, felt like I was still in the states. Yet you are close to Paddington, there's a Marks and Spencer across the road, (good for picnic supplies) bus routes and the Edgeware Road tube stop are easily accessible and a good price for London especially if you have points.
We always have free Wi-Fi, as we belong to Hilton Honors and we have qualified for that bonus. It is advisable that you join Hilton Honors to earn points and have advantages which are offered to their members.
Just seen this and it brought to mind one of the bugbears of my uncle who used to be a London cab driver, and that was people that asked at Heathrow to be taken to the Hilton in London and then had no clue when asked which one it was (maybe a work booking). His record was to visit 5 before finding the one with the reservation. Of course this won't apply with all the details above ...
