Looking for family lodging in Greater London

We are a family of 4 including 2 teenagers ( 1 boy and 1 girl). I would love some suggestions for lodging in the greater London area. Would prefer a quad room and budget minded and close to public transport. We are staying in Travelodges in other cities but would like suggestion for something different. Thanks.

Can you be a bit more specific than greater London? Thats a huge area.

Hi!

We stayed at a Premier Inn at Leicester Square two years ago. We were looking for a single room in our budget that could include our two children - at the time one was a teen and the other was 8. This was a solid hotel for us as we wanted just one room and wanted to be within walking distance of Tube stations and other sites.

I do have to say that the staff was fabulous! Sure, this hotel didn't have great charm, but for days 13-18 of our European vacation, it worked for us.

I know that some might recommend renting an apartment and hopefully someone will give you some advice for that.

Happy Travels!

One thing that may help give context to your search is that, in general, London is one of the more expensive hotel cities in Europe. Just to prepare you for higher costs than you will have seen in many cities.

Knowing that central London will be quite expensive, I'm assuming that the outskirts of London would be less expensive. Right now I'm leaning toward West London (Fulham, Richmond, etc) but am open to other areas. Thanks for all the the responses so far!

Hi,
I mentioned the Byron (Queensborough Terrace). in another thread. May want to check their rooms for quads. And not to sound like a broken record in these fora, but you may want to see if No. 63 Bayswater Road has a family room. I know they have a big room across the back--can't remember if it's for three or four.

A general comment & you may have already thought of this: be sure to weigh the time/transport costs of commuting in every day. It may seem like you're saving money but by the time you add it all up, not necessarily

Did you look at renting an apartment? We are getting one on vrbo- it's a little further out in belsize park, I will see how that turns out when we go in a couple weeks! But if we are somewhere 3+ nights we always get an apt. I look for ones on vrbo that have lots of good reviews, usually I book pretty early to get those.

Good luck!

Maybe I am reading in a contradiction where not intended in the above, but Fulham is in Zone 2, so shouldn't be lumped in the same consideration regarding travel as Richmond in Zone 4. If looking at 'Fulham' though to be really convenient for transport make sure it is in Walham Green or Parsons Green or Hurlingham, ie areas with underground stations on the District line, rather than somewhere around Fulham Palace Road.

Since you haven't mentioned a budget, I would recommend the Falcon Hotel(www.falcon-hotel) near Paddington Station. A quad room goes for £155 a night.

Thank you for all your ideas and suggestions. I found (and booked) a centrally located hotel after considering the travel cost (and mental wear and tear) of traveling in to central London every day. We booked at the Ridgemont Hotel very close to the British Museum. Nothing fancy but got good reviews. Happy travels to all!

Ann, I have stayed at the Ridgemont and it was fine. As you say, not luxurious but run by nice people who make a great breakfast. Down the street ( Gower) is RADA ( Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) and they sometimes have student productions open to the public. Worth inquiring.

A short walk away, besides the Br. Museum, is the John Soane's Museum, very eccentric and fascinating.

I think you've made an excellent choice (not that I know the particular hotel) -- but to stay closer in so you spend more time seeing and doing and less time going back and forth. Great!
