Hi,
I am joining the RS Ireland tour on October 3, 2014, and am trying to plan a pre-tour stop in London. WHile I went to school there during the Ice Age, I have not been back to visit London for ten years. Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels/B&Bs ? I am a single female travelor.
Many thanks!

Astor House. RS recommends also. We've stayed there several times - always great. Can take the Piccadilly Line straight from Heathrow to So. Ken station and walk. They have 2 single rooms but can be hard to get reservation. Not cheap, but nothing in London is because of the horrible exchange rate - English Pounds - U.S. Dollars.
One of our cheaper listings that still has a private bath for 65 pounds single is www.stylotel.com, near Paddington station (no breakfast, pay for Wi-Fi).
We stay at the Jenkins Hotel, in the Bloomsbury area, any time we're in London. It's a small hotel, but clean and well located to the tube, bus or train stations.
Vancouver Studio Apartments in Bayswater. Like the neighborhood, 3 tube stops to choose from, major bus routes along Bayswater and Westbourne Roads, walking distance from Paddington, close to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, there's a neighborhood pub a block away, The Prince Edward, loads of cafes, a shopping center, etc. Must admit it's been a few years (5) since I've stayed there. Last few visits I've used Airbnb or stayed with friends but I was always pleased with the comfort of the room, the quiet, safety and enjoyed having a small kitchenette. Good price. Tripadvisor reviews stellar. http://vancouverstudios.co.uk/en/home Did visit the area last Fall and enjoyed a tasty meal at Toa Kitchen on Queensway. BTW, GO GIANTS!!!!!
Sally - How about the Falcon Hotel. It is with in easy walking distance of Paddington Station. www.falcon-hotel.com.
