Looking for a castle to stay in.

My mom has requested that on our month long trip to Great Britain that I find her a castle to stay in.

Have you stayed in any either in England, Wales or Scotland that you would recommend?
Why did you love it?
Or why did you not?

She requested the same thing in France in 2015 and we found 2 for her......

Hopefully I will find some that we can afford here as well......

Thanks for any and all suggestions and reviews.

If you are seeking budget-friendly castle lodging, you might consider St. Briavels Castle in England. It's very affordable and has good reviews on Tripadvisor. I have not stayed there but found out about it when planning a trip to the UK for my family.

Lumley Castle in Durham? Makes a good intermediate stop between London and Edinburgh.

Stayed at Stonefield Castle Hotel in Tarbert (Kintyre), Scotland; you may find my full review in the reviews section of this website.

In some ways it was really lovely; it's situated with a beautiful view of Loch Fyne and is known for its gardens, which were in bloom when we were there in May. On the downside, the plumbing in our room was problematic and the carpeting, drapes, paint condition etc. throughout the property were somewhat worn. They mixed up my reservation so that I would have paid about 10% more if I had not gone down to the desk with my original receipt and made them recalculate.

Stonefield was never really a castle but rather a country house (albeit a really nice one) built around the time Queen Victoria ascended the throne. It has been a hotel since ca. 1970 and has remodeling reflecting that period. I would have enjoyed it more if they'd provided some background on who built it and who lived there over the decades before it became a hotel.

I am here to apologize to all those who answered this post.

I completely forgot all about it. I never even saw the answers. I am so forgetful. Please know that I really appreciate it and I think we are going to go to Lumley Castle. It seems like a perfect fit for us.

Please accept my apologies. Looks like I posted this at 1;34 in the morning and just did not remember it. I'm sorry but your advice was put to good use and I now have a place to stay.
