London with only 2-3 days

We'll have a brief 2-3 day stop in London on our way to Portugal and I need some suggestions. First, hotels and in which area. Second, if you only had this short time what would you choose to see and do?

Hard to help without knowing anything about your budget or interests or whether you're a couple, family, or what.

For what to see and do, see our host's suggestions under "Explore Europe" on this website, linking to London. He offers ratings of individual sights and plans for different lengths of stay. Also I suggest a guidebook or two, with more information you can use to make choices.

For lodging, consider neighborhoods along the Piccadilly tube line, which runs out to Heathrow Airport (assuming that's the one you're using). Earl's Court or south Kensington would be good choices, as would Bloomsbury. But London sights are so spread out that there's no ideal "central" area as you might find in other cities.

Person A might spend 2-3 days in London at Harry Potter sights.
Person B might spend them at art museums and classical music concerts.
Person C might spend them visiting WW2 oriented locations.
Person D might spend them at fancy department stores and restaurants.
etc...

The question is: What are YOU interested in seeing/doing?

My favorites: Tower of London, Churchill War rooms, River excursion, walking through Hyde Park or along the River, St Paul’s. Many other interesting sights available as well.

We have visited London several times. With 2-3 days --- I would spend one day at the British Museum and the Tower of London.

The other day I would spend at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Hyde Park, and Westminster Abbey. I would use any extra time to walk past the statue of Boudicca by Parliament, cross the bridge and walk the south bank past the London Eye, the Tate Modern, the Globe Theatre, and then cross the bridge across the Thames that leads to Saint Paul's Cathedral.

Evenings: one for theatre, one for a lovely dinner at the restaurant on top of the National Portrait Gallery.

To help roxannweger who created a new thread to answer the questions here, and although she has been on the Forums here a few years hasn't made many posts and may not know how to add or append, I've copied the text of her other post for her.

Here is what she said:

We are two adults- young at 61. We're flying in to Heathrow and I would guess flying out of there as well though I need to do more checking. I want to see history (mostly architecture and the like), museums maybe, culture definitely. I hope this helps.

If only had 2-3 days and tying in with your interests of
History, culture and maybe museums:

Westminster Abbey
Tower of London
Churchill War Rooms
Leaden Hall Market
Tower Bridge
Walk along the Thames Path
Crossrail Place Roof Garden
Liberty
Watching the pelicans of st james park being fed. 2:30pm daily. Duck island cottage. Then walk up Birdcage walk to see The Palace.
Tickets for the Churchill War Rooms are timed entrance tickets. If properly organized you could visit the War Rooms, watch the Horse Guards leave to ride up the Mall for the Changing of the Guards ceremony and see the afternoon pelican feeding.

Westminster. Big Ben (even if it's still under wraps). Buckingham Palace. And the British Museum.

Check out Premier Inn County Hall and Park Plaza. Both very well located south of the Thames. Close to Westminster Bridge.
