London Walks, thanks for the tip!

We just spent a week in London for a family reunion. Used Rick's London pocket guide religiously, but by far, the best tip was to check out London Walks. We went on their New Year's Eve pub crawl to Hampstead, what a great night! We wanted out of the city center to be away from the mad mobs (which started forming early in the afternoon) and the need for a ticket to be along the embankment. London Walks offered a great chance to explore this lovely village and spend the last moments of 2016 on a darkened hillside overlooking the city's fireworks. What a memory! The tour leader was informative and funny, and we enjoyed every minute. Well-worth the 10 pounds --- in fact, it was a BARGAIN. Wish we could have squeezed other tours in. Next trip!

London Walks offers a great experience. I took their Pub Walk Along the Thames one Friday Night in the autumn of 2010, and it was a fantastic opportunity to become instantly familiar with the history of Londinium - as told (led) by David Tucker, who is a walking encyclopedia of that City. Starting around St. Paul's Cathedral (tour officially meets at Blackfriars' Tube Stop), this stroll meanders pleasantly thru different neighborhoods, stopping every thirty minutes or so for refreshment at a local pub. Walking across the Millennium Bridge at night (excellent photo op, with St. Paul's glowing in the background), you briefly pop into the Tate Museum and conclude the walk with visits to two of the oldest public houses in London, which sit along the banks of the Thames. Highly recommend!

We did a couple of London Walks in 2014 and loved them both. We did the day tour to Bath with Richard and also the Magical Mystery Tour with a different Richard. Both were fabulous and as you say, a great bargain.

For all of you London Walks fans (or London fans), they published a wonderful book in 2009, "London Walks London Stories" by David Tucker and the Guides. It's out of print but can be found, we located a copy on Amazon earlier this year. Next best thing to being on their walks. And, BTW, David Tucker is incredible. Earlier this year we spent close to a half hour just talking with him after a walk.
