We will be arriving in London the day before Bank Holiday Monday. We are contemplating the day trip to Cambridge with London Walks in the Monday. It appeals as we love London Walks, and we haven’t been to Cambridge. Also appealing is not having to book, and we can see how we’re feeling after travelling from Australia the day before!
Has anyone done this specific walk, and if so can you give any recommendations of feedback about it?
Cheers
Cathy
I did this walk several years ago. It was with Simon. I remember we started by going to a US WW2 cemetery, just outside Cambridge, then the rest (most) was Cambridge itself. Kings College, the standout site. Overall, a very good introduction to Cambridge. I remember, towards the end of the afternoon, Simon arranged for those who wanted to, to have a go on a punt on the river (not sure how much it cost). The rest had free time to explore further.

I haven't but I am somewhat acquainted with Cambridge - one of my favourite British places - and the trains which serve it.
The Great Northern route out of Kings Cross - the meeting point for the tour is Kings Cross (KX) so Great Northern it will be, haven't posted any Bank Holiday alterations yet. Not that there won't be any, just that because of the foibles this summer they are late in posting the calendar of works.
But at the moment it looks like there won't be trouble. Bank Holidays + Trains = often chaos.
The description of the tour sounds like lots and lots of fun. Just make sure that if you are shown the apple tree at the Botanic Gardens it is a scion of the one in Lincolnshire where he grew up and where he may have been conked on the head, not the original.
I'll be in Cambridge again in the next few days. Wish I were with you on the tour....
Our family has done this tour and we have recommended it to a number of people. Simon is an excellent tour guide and Cambridge is his specialty. After arriving by train to Cambridge, there was a private bus waiting for us. It took us to the American WWII museum. It was an incredible place that we didn’t even know existed. We then went into Cambridge and toured several areas. After about an hour or so we were given time for lunch before the second part of the tour began. The lunch break was about an hour long. Simon recommended several great, local places for lunch. Our lunch was excellent. For the afternoon tour, Simon took us to several out of the way places. You could tell that he has lots of connections in the area. We were able to view some places that were closed but we were able to sneak a peek. Punting was an optional part at the end of the day. Those that wanted could group together and Simon arranged for a very good rate for punting. It was fun. The private bus brought us back to the train station, but you could stay longer if you wanted. It was a fun day! Enjoy!
Thank you so very much for the informative replies! Much appreciated! I’m looking forward to going to Cambridge!!
