Our family will be in London the last week in July and I am looking for a walking tour for kids, ages 10 and 7. I really like most of London Walks but feel that a 2 hour walk would be a bit long for the 7 year old. We did a kids based walking tour of Boston last summer which was 1 hour and think that was just the right amount of time. Does any have experience or recommendations?
Thanks everyone!
The Thames path would be something to consider. You could design your own “ walk “ possibly bringing a picnic lunch along with you. Premade sandwiches from a Pret a Manager or Sainsbury or Tesco market.
Or walk through the Lancaster Gate into Hyde Park to walk along the Serpentine looking for the green parrots then meander up to the round pound in front of Kensington palace and from there over to the Princess Diana Playground.
There are benches where you could sit and people watch, hydrate and rest tired feet.
Or watch the Changing of the Guard at the Horse Guards parade and then follow Birdcage Walk up past the Wellington Baracks where you might see the guards marching back from the Changing of the Guards at The Palace.
Or follow the Thames path to the Battersea Park children’s zoo.
Or visit Mudshute Farm.
Lots of open space in London neighborhoods.
Or walk across the Millennium bridge towards St Pauls.
Or check the Tower Bridge lift schedule. https://www.towerbridge.org.uk/lift-times
Or sit up top in the front seats of a double decker bus. Nearly floor to ceiling window for all of you to look out of.
Or walk about Covent Garden watching all the buskers.
Or wander about Harrod’s food hall.
Or Regent’s park and take a paddle boat out
Or visit the Brixton Windmill
Are your kids Harry Potter fans? We did the London walks Harry Potter tour a few years back with a 8 and 9 year old and they found it quite engaging. They are also quite reasonably priced so you could always slip off part way through if they are losing interest. You pay at the beginning so you could just let the guide know you were heading out early.
London Walks cost just 15 GBP for adults, 10 GBP for seniors and students, and 5 GBP for children 8 to 15. Your 7-year-old would be free.
Thank you for the responses. I will try one of the walks and may drop out early. I loved the self walk options too.
I came across some kids walks at the City of London guides website when I was looking for a link for someone else. I also found a page with the kids walks listed but I can’t hit on it again, lol 🙄. You may have better luck!!
Anyway, I thought this one sounded like fun and I’m bookmarking it for myself for my next trip!

Hi Suzann,
You could also consider Spitalfields City Farm, which is perfect for kids on several levels. Added value: they also sell their own produce and products AND Brick Lane is mere minutes away. We refer to our visit to that farm exactly a year ago, in our loooooooong TR 'Back to Brick'. It features both fotos plus commentary. *At the above-mentioned Farm, we had a funny incident involving some local schoolchildren. Its over on the Fodors forum, where I go by 'zebec'.
cheers

Claudia's post qualifies her as a modern Mary Poppins.
