The headline says it all, I'm afraid.

That's not the first time that's happened. I believe there was a similar case in India not too long ago, and I'm sure there are more that haven't been well publicized yet. I'm NOT a fan of Uber at all, and hope our provincial government continues to keep them out of B.C.
Welllll...we've had some licensed cab drivers here in Nova Scotia charged with/convicted of sexual assault, so it's not just Uber drivers...there are bad apples everywhere.
Despite the fact that 99.9% of Uber drivers may be reputable, I still don't agree with the concept and hope we can continue to give them "the bum's rush" out of B.C.
There was something here in SF or the immediate Bay Area recently where the Uber driver threatened the girl since he could not locate the spot where she wanted to be picked up. As she rightfully was afraid, she cancelled which only made the guy more irate. You don't want to confront some riff-raff driver like that regardless of what the contrary statistics are. Absolutely no sympathy for Uber from me, agree with the "throw 'em" out concept, a pity that's not the case in SF.
I've no particular feelings about Uber on way or another but some of the Uber posts on here remind me of the regulars who (repeatedly) state they'll never fly Ryan Air but spend a lot of time posting about Ryan Air.
Uber has a number of business models and operate differently in different countries to fit in (or not) with local legislation. In the UK they operate as licensed mini-cabs (ie Private Hire Vehicles) and therefore go through the same licencing and police checks and operate under the same insurance requirements as any other mini-cab firm.
Avoiding Uber because you don't agree with their financial model or tax arrangements is eminently reasonable but if you are avoiding them because you believe they are unsafe then you should avoid every other mini-cab or private hire car in the UK for the exact same reasons. Or not.
These negative headlines on Uber drivers may or may not make a difference in their volume of business. Still, my policy is to avoid them, ie, boycott, the reason why makes no difference.
You don't need to take an Uber because of an early flight. The most excellent app Hailo will deliver a black cab to your door whenever you need it, or there are many upright and legal minicab companies like JustAirports. Neither of them have anything to do with the noxious Uber.
But in the UK Uber is a minicab company :)
One of and possibly the most prolific convicted sex attacker in the UK happened to be a hackney carriage driver in London (John Warboys). There have been others, eg David Perry.
Yikes! With the HAILO app, one does not need Uber.
Very true, Laurel
and most ubers don't have the super cute and iconic pop-up seats behind the driver. And I bet you can't pull a full sized bicycle into the passenger compartment and still sit comfortably (voice of experience).
