I happened to see another poster mention the tube strike next week.. We will be in London for the 1st time starting Wednesday afternoon. We will arrive at Kings Cross Station from York and have to get to Victoria station to the hotel.. How badly is this going to effect us and what would be the best plan to get to the hotel? Should we even buy an Oyster card with this strike going on? How badly is this going to effect seeing London, as we always use public transportation exclusively? Does a strike mean the whole tube system is shut down? I know, lots of questions!!!! Just don't want my good time spoiled! We will leave London on Sunday morning. Thanks!
Under the strike last week the Victoria line was running over the central portion with quite a reasonable frequency, although obviously crowded.
We'll be arriving on Thurs., so we'll get the last day of the strike. I think the end time is something like 10pm Thursday. They don't shut down the whole system, just some stations and trains don't run quite as frequently. You can go to the tfl website and it will tell you which stations will be closed. Last time we were there for a strike, it changed from one day to the next, but I am not sure that is happening this time. You can use their trip planning and it will show you which routes to use. Push the "details" to help with which direction you need to go. In the tube, the stops are listed order on the signs, but the buses just have the # and the last stop, so you need to know the last stop on the line. I went ahead and did the routes for our activities using both the tube and buses.
Thanks for the reassurance and tips... We leave ATL in a few hrs!
