London Tube Question-How Long From Notting Hill Gate to Kings Cross?

Approximately how long should it take to go from Notting Hill Gate to Kings Cross on a Sat. morning (in early Sept.). I want to buy advance purchase train tickets for London to York so need to figure out my timetable for getting from our B&B close to the Notting Hill Gate station to Kings Cross station for the train. Thank you.

Quickest route these days is Central line to Oxford Circus then Victoria line. However, Circle/District to Edgeware Road changing to Circle/Hammersmith might be less crowded, at least on the first leg. Either way allow at least half an hour, probably a bit more to be safe.

Hi Mary,

The best way is the Central line eastbound to Oxford Circus, where you'll change to the Victoria line northbound to Kings Cross. It shouldn't be that crowded on an early Saturday morning. You can use the Circle line route as a back up in case there's a problem with the Central, but the Circle would never be my first choice as the service is less frequent and you'll wait longer for the tube to come than you will on the Central. The actual ride itself should take about 25-30 minutes (a good rule of thumb is to allow 3 minutes between stops on average.) You'll obviously want to allow for time to get to Notting Hill Gate, waiting time for the tube, and then time at Kings Cross to figure out at which platform you'll be boarding. Also, if you're collecting tickets at the station, give yourself another 5-10 minutes and bring your credit card and confirmation number.

If it were me, I'd allow at least an hour...if you get there with plenty of time to spare, that's not a bad thing - get a coffee and get to your seat early so you can relax.

On a Saturday in September - you don't say which one so I haven't checked the planning calendar - there is a fair to middling (OK, pretty good) chance that the northern half of the Circle Line will be undergoing weekend engineering works.

I'd stick with the Central line and then one of the connections into Kings Cross. Depending on who else has engineering works, the Victoria Line and Piccadilly Line would both work.

We would be traveling on Sat. Sept. 6th and I'm going to print out all this information. I don't travel well if I'm stressed about making a connection so I think I should plan to allow a minimum of two hours. Thank you all!

The Planning Calendar at https://tfl.gov.uk/forms/12392.aspx only goes out 2 months so your date won't show until July 6th and you can follow that link as time gets closer.

2 hours, I could walk it in that time. You may be a touch conservative with that, but there are certainly plenty of eating places at Kings Cross, upstairs at Kings Cross, and just over the road at all the restaurants at St Pancras International station - including their Belgian breakfast place, Le Pain Quotidien where you can sit around the big table, make some new friends, and wait for your train time.

Thank you Nigel. I checked the link for the Belgium cafe and see chocolates and pastry so extra time before the train will be well utilized! I will also check the transportation link as we get closer.
