London Tube Access for less able people

travelling to London in October, nearest underground station to hotel is Embankment. Will have a suitcase and backpack.
can anyone tell me how many steps there are up to the street from the District Line platform?
I know from the London transit website there is no escalator or elevator from this platform but need to know if I will be able to manage the steps with my luggage.
Thanks!

About 30 steps total, in two similar length flights (different split going each way).

Just to be sure as my original post wasn't completely unambiguous, it is 30 stairs in total, not 2*30 (I said two flights because you have to change direction which could also be important). Of course this still might be too much for you.

Note that the previous station at Westminster is step free to the surface (via lift or escalator) if that helps although as Emma said above, really need your actual destination to give the most accurate advice.

BE prepared for the times with the escalator is out of service. It is harder to descend imobile escalator stairs because the rise-run is different from stationary stairs.

Below is the color-coded Transport for London's tube guide pamphlet letting passengers know about steps and stairways at each station including step-free connections & stations. This is very thorough & informative! Blow up the instructions on the left middle panel for instructions on how to read the map.

If mobility is an issue, please don't consider taking the underground at peak rush hour times, as you may get jostled in the carriages, with people pushing to get on and off. Travelling by bus is far more civilised!

Thanks everyone, think I will get a taxi from Victoria!

A bus could be an acceptable solution, a least out of peak hours or one that starts from Victoria. But you still haven't said where you are actually going to.
