I'm planning a trip to london next month 3/3/2025 to 3/8/2025 i'm pretty torn on where to stay, as it is my first time visiting London. The options i have now are east london 1.( Four Points Flex by Sheraton London Shoreditch East which is the cheapest at this point) 2.(Park Grand London Kensington) 3. ( Four Points Flex by Sheraton London Euston ) i understand that i'll be using the tube, so i want to be located as close to a station as possible. Any help/ recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Hi, welcome to the site!
Last year I visited London for the first time too and I stayed at The Sanctuary House Hotel. It turned out the be the perfect location. Here's my trip report which reviews the hotel and has other info you might find useful https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/trip-report-london-march-2024
I went to London for the first time a couple of yers back and so loved it.
I stayed at Hotel 63 on Bayswater Road across from Kensington Gardens. Lots of very good public transportation and fabulous location. Decent small breakfast.
It was recommended to me by others on this site.
The 2 areas you’ve picked out are on totally opposite sides of London and completely different in character. The Sheraton is near Bethnal Green. This is an area with a lot of cool stuff going on, it’s also got some poverty, social housing and it’s very diverse. South Kensington is rich and posh. Quite staid and boring. Young people won’t want to go there.
Given that you only have three days, you might want to be slightly more central so you don't keep having to get the bus or tube. Also so that you can walk out to a wide choice of dinner places.
The Park Grand London Kensington is a very close to Cromwell Road for taking the bus toward Buckingham Palace and short walk to Earl's Court for the Circle Line tube line Excellent location IMO.
Sheraton London Euston is also an excellent location. Close to the Northern and Victoria tube lines.
Sheraton Shoreditch is well outside of the most visited toursit zones. Close to Betnal Green and the Central Line. Probably further out than you want to be.
I suggest you make a list of the sites you plan to see in London and decide which hotel checks the most walking distance, easy bus ride, or simplest metro stop boxes. Also, don't ignore using the bus. It can be great for shorter distance trips and is, of course, much more scenic.
Just a warning, the Four Points is not necessarily a bad choice but it has tiny tiny tiny rooms without windows. if your solo it might be OK but for me more than one night there would have been a problem. One night was fine but I certainly wouldn’t have stayed there a week.
It looks to me like you’re trying to use Marriott points, because those are about their cheapest options. I’m going to give you a couple others to look into one is the Xenia. I think it’s a little better hotel than the Park Grand (I haven’t stayed at the park grand but the reviews are sad.). Definitely father out but a good choice for Marriott points is the Maida Vale. Very close to a tube station, but will be a longer commute.
on my last trip I noticed a Premier Inn at the foot of Blackfriars Bridge which I thought was a very handy location
Premier Inn Westminster (Waterloo) has a room for £682 for your time period. Excellent central location. Unless your other choices are significantly cheaper, I’d go with this hotel.
