London transit options for 12yo

Hi all,

My husband and I are traveling to London this summer with our 12yo and 9yo daughters. My research tells me that just picking up an Oyster card for the adults is the best bet for our 5-day stay and that the 9yo travels free. What budget-friendly transit options might you suggest for the 12yo?

Thanks!

There are two basic options, but the 'Zip Oyster Photocard' requires an application four weeks ahead with photographs etc and costs £15 admin fee. It is designed more for residents, even if available to everyone.

Simpler is to set the 'Young Visitor discount' to an adult card. This can be done at:

Any Tube station
TfL Rail station ticket offices
Visitor Centres (excluding Gatwick Airport)
Victoria National Rail station ticket office

This gives travel at half the cost of an adult.

The 9 year old only travels for free if accompanied by an adult - no adventures just paired with your 12 year old.

On the underground or anywhere where there is a barrier go through with your 9 year old through the wide barrier.
