My wife and I will be travelling by train to Stratford on Avon in October by train and we will be landing at Heathrow and then going to Stratford by train. We have a couple of days before we need to be in Stratford and we have seen pretty much all the things in London and we would like to see more of England. Are there any places we could stop off in on the way to Stratford? I was thinking of Oxford? Thanks for any guidance.
My vote would definitely be for Oxford. It is such a wonderful place and has such an incredible vibe to it. I was there for 2 half days and 1 night last year, and would have killed for several more days. I am definitely going back. The architecture is amazing, there are many fascinating historical buildings and pubs, beautiful gardens and the Ashmolean Museum, which is one of the coolest museums I've ever been in. Plus there are places like Radcliffe Camera and the various colleges. You could spend hours just wandering around looking at everyone and never get tired.
Plus you can get there quite easily straight from Heathrow without having to detour into London. You just take the Oxford Airline bus, which is an express bus that will collect you and your luggage at Heathrow, and for £25, deliver you directly to Oxford city center. You pay on board, and it's a very comfortable 90 minute ride.
Oxford is a short bus ride to Blenhiem Palace!
