London to Southampton - Taxi advice

We are going from London to Southampton to join a cruise in May.

I have Rick's book Northern European Cruise Ports. He suggests that a taxi would cost about £125 for a taxi. We are 4 adults. This would seem a better alternative to a train fare £30 each plus taxi at Southampton.

Would 1 taxi fit us and luggage? Does the cost seem accurate? How do we book one?

What are your suggestions?

In August we paid £140 for a transfer from Gatwick to Southampton. I think £125 is a very optimistic estimate. At any rate, if you google "transfer London to Southampton" some websites will come up. Our transfer was with a Southampton firm, West Quay Taxi (google it) and was absolutely impeccable in every way. With 4 people and baggage, you would need to order a "people mover", what we would call a van. National Express buses have a route from London to Southampton and should cost a lot less than the train fare.
