My husband and I will fly to London late July and have booked a hotel near Paddington Station. We hope to store our large luggage there while we take a few days in Cornwall. Our plan is to take train to Port Isaac, catch a Doc Martin walking tour there and enjoy the area. We don’t meet our cruise until Tuesday afternoon. Is it possible to also travel to Bath? Would appreciate recommendations.
There is no railway station at Port Isaac. You take a train to Bodmin Parkway. There you take a bus #11 into Bodmin every 30 minutes (Padstow or Wadebridge bound).
You then catch the bus #96 at 0850 and every 2 hours thereafter until 1450 then 1750 for the 1 hour 16 minute ride.
Check the timetable for your connection as sometimes it is faster to take the #11 to Wadebridge then the #96 for the 50 minute ride the other way round the circle to Port Isaac.
My advice is to take the Riviera Sleeper to Bodmin Parkway to gain a day (arrives 0626).
Have breakfast either at the Station Cafe in the signalbox (opens at 0730) or in Bodmin then the 0850 bus, arrive at 1004.
The way I would do this overnight (and have rather too many times to various places in Cornwall) is to take the 2230 National Express bus from London Victoria, arrive Bodmin 0510 then the 0615 bus to Port Isaac arrive 0729, but on this forum people only use National Express for a handful of routes.
The 0803 train from London Paddington arrives at Bodmin Parkway at 1151, in time for the 1250 #96 above, and the 1002 at 1354 in time for the 1450 #96.
