London to Malaga: getting to the airport

I plan to travel from London (Kensington) to Malaga in mid-September. I was told I could take a cab to Victoria Station and take the Gatwick Express train to Gatwick Airport to catch my flight to Malaga. Is this the best way? Also, how long before the flight should I be at Gatwick? I want to purchase train and flight tickets soon. Thanks for any suggestion you may have. Also, any low cost airline I should avoid? I'm seeing flights on Monarch, EasyJet, BA, Norwegian Airlines, Iberia etc.

I'm not thoroughly familiar with the transportation options from Kensington to Victoria station, so I'll leave that to Nigel or one the other knowledgeable people from the U.K. Yes, the Gatwick Express is a good way to reach LGW, although it's a bit expensive. There are other options but I tend to use the G.E. most of the time as it's very convenient and quick.

My preferred budget airline in Europe is easyJet and I always book with them whenever possible. They have flights to Malaga so that would be a good airline to consider. However, be sure you read their Terms & Conditions carefully, especially related to baggage. If you're buying the cheapest seats, you'll only be allowed ONE carry on item and no more! If you upgrade with Speedy Boarding or other options, the rules are a bit more relaxed.

I'd suggest being at the airport about two hours prior to flight time. Note that easyJet uses both Terminals at LGW, so you may have to take the little train to the other terminal.

where in Kensington? It will depend on whether cab, bus or tube is more convenient. How much luggage will you have?

I will have one suitcase (regular size - not carryon). I will be staying on Redcliffe Square.

If you decide to fly easyjet then you could also take advantage of easybus, depending on where in Kensington you are. There's a bus stop on Lillie Road (West Ken I think) which a short walk from West Brom under/overground station. The buses run from a very early hour, best to book.
Actually now I think of it you can probably use easybus even if you're not flying with them.
Happy travels!

You won't be in Kensington, you will be in Chelsea; the bus stop just outside isn't much help. Better the Brompton road nearby, or Earls Court Underground.

As much as I don't use taxis that may be the best with a large suitcase.

What time of day, and weekend or working day?

Thank you for your help. I have plans in place to get a ride to the airport. I know it will be more expensive, but it will be less stressful.
