London to London telephone calling

I feel this should be an easy question and I did try looking up the information but did not get exactly what I need.

I want to know how to make a phone call to my hotel after I arrive in London.

My cell phone provider tells me that they offer international plans and all I have to do is call them a day or two before I leave home and they will turn it on.

Ok so let's assume that i have arrived at Heathrow or at Paddington and am running late. I want to call my hotel and let them know this. Below is the number of my hotel with the last four digits x'd out

44 (0) 20 7723 xxxx

so do I hold down the zero until I get a plus???? Then dial +44 20 7723 XXXX

Do I drop the zero after the 44?

Also I have an old friend in Hinckley. How would I call her?

Dial 0044 207723.

Always dial 0044 and always drop the first 0 of the main number.

Yes, you can hold down the 0 on your smartphone until it becomes a +. This replaces the 00 at the beginning, making the country code +44. Then omit the next (0) and proceed as you posted.

Add the complete number to your contacts, select the contact to call and everything happens automatically regardless of where you are or whether you have a US or UK SIM

To call your old friend in Hinckley I would expect that she has or will give you her number. The dialing code for Hinckley (famous for among others, motorcycles, and home of a friend of mine) is 01455. Phone numbers there have 6 digits, plus the dialing code.

So for fun let's assume that she is at the Triumph Motorcycles Factory Visitor Experience in Hinkley. Their number is 01455 453 088. So you would put her in your contacts as +44 1455 453088. Your phone will sort out the spacing, although because you now use an Android and I speak iPhone, it may not be quite such a simple process depending on which flavour of Android you have.

By the way, the Triumph Factory tour is well worth it to motorheads like me.
