Planning a weeklong trip to London in March. One of us really, really wants to spend a day in Liverpool (it's that Beatles Thing).. Any suggestions on making this work as a fairly quick train trip (about 24 hours, tops) or recommendations on Beatle-y stuff in Liverpool? Cheers!
We are going to UK in May. My husband is a Beatles fan. I want to surprise him when in Liverpool. Made a reservation at a thematic hotel, where everything is about Beatles. The name is Hard days Hard nights hotel. They also have a bar with live music.
Trains take a little over 2 hours from London Euston to Liverpool, so a short trip is easily done, although of course you could spend a lot longer. There’s a lot more than Beatles stuff to see including an awful lot for many many US citizens whose families came through there on their emigration route. You could easily spend your whole week there, but of course that’s true of many places in the UK.
I’m no expert on the Beatles despite being brought up barely 20 miles from Liverpool, as I was/am rather more a Stones/Brian Wilson fan, so I will let others fill out an itinerary. All I know is that the National Trust’s tours to Lennon and McCartney’s childhood homes are very highly thought of and need booking well in advance.
My cousin is a Beatles FANATIC......all caps on purpose. Visited London a few years ago. He's the only Beatles fan in the family so planned a day trip to Liverpool. Make lots of plans.
His train was cancelled and he got to London after his tour started and missed it. So, you might want to go up the night before.
Additionally, London Walks offers numerous Beatles themed walks in London:
I'm sure Rick covers this in his videos and guides this is probably the #1 reason tourists visit these days
Beatles tourism in Liverpool is indeed popular but I'm sure it's number two behind football as a reason to visit.

It depends on were you are from....for Americans it's probably the Beatles.
We really enjoyed the Magical Mystery Tour. Also walking along the River Mersey was quite pleasant.

I like Jurgen as much as the next fan, but that's not why Americans are going to Liverpool. And not the Titanic memorial either, it's the Fab Four.
But what is the most popular reason for Americans going to Liverpool was not the claim. The Beatles may be for Americans (although plenty of them got for football) but for tourists as a whole many more people go to Liverpool for football than the Beatles, from all over the world.
The significance of this for anyone going for the Beatles or other reasons is that when there is a game on, particularly Liverpool, accommodation straight away becomes expensive and scarce, especially in the popular city centre locations.
