London to Ireland flights

We are flying from London to Dublin. Which airport is the easiest to fly out of London? We are staying in the Westminster area of London so considering location too. We could also fly from Leeds to Dublin so we could spend a day in York. Would that be a good option? Is that airport easy to access from York?
Thank you!

If you are staying in the Westminster area then Heathrow, Gatwick and London City are your easiest connections. Gatwick the cheapest prices of the three.

London City is probably a little closer. It's also a very small airport so it is easy to manage. But the fares will probably be much higher from there.

Luton And Stansted also have flights but they are further out. But the flights will probably be cheapest of all the other airports. (Gatwick prices could be as low as these two airports.)

Leeds is also an easy option from York.

Ryanair has the cheapest fares on this route from every airport except Heathrow and London City. But you must read their rules carefully or it could wind up costing you more than all the others.

If you went from York to Leeds Bradford Airport LBA has no rail station. It is an Airport Flyer bus. The usual advice is to train to Leeds for the bus. However there is building work at Leeds Station (at the Airport Bus Stop which is taking forever) and the bus stop has moved to a less convenient place in a nearby side street.
So, personally, from York I suggest temporarily train to Harrogate then the Airport Flyer A2 bus from there. Or, on the same line, there is a station called Weeton- the A2 also stops there, but that option may be more sensible for a local. Get the timings right and it's about 75 minutes from York to LBA.

I live 3 hours from any airport so am used to longer journeys to and from- but from York flying Newcastle to Dublin is another option I would see as reasonable. 90 minutes or less by train to Newcastle then 30 minutes on the very frequent Tyne and Wear metro to the Airport.
Thus a 2 hour (or thereabouts) journey.
Given the option of LBA or NCL I would personally favour NCL due to the better all rail service- assuming flight times worked.

From NCL there is Ryanair as well as Aer Lingus so fares should be keener. LBA is BA and Aer Lingus.

Ryanair also flies from Leeds to Dublin. They would be cheapest if you add no extras.

There are also more nonstop flights to Dublin from Leeds than Newcastle.

They would be cheapest.

There was another thread yesterday which pointed out, correctly, that by the time you add on baggage fees and any other extras it is not always a Ryanair is cheapest scenario. That OP was going DUB to somewhere else in England and overall Aer Lingus was cheapest that day and route. If going for cheapest checking all options on your particular day is always the best. And sometimes convenient times may be better than pure cost.
Ryanair is also very quick at raising prices if an event is happening- sometimes legacy carriers can be better value when Ryanair or any low cost carrier play that game.

By some distance London City is the most pleasant airport to fly out from London. As Frank says it might be more expensive though.

The great thing about London City is its size. No long walks although the seating in the waiting areas can be limited.

The DLR drops you off right in front. (Don't forgot to tap out on the machines against the wall. There are no ticket barriers.)

It's a two minute walk from the entrance to the terminal and up the stairs/escalator/lift to security. London City security no longer has you remove toiletries or electronics from your bag.

No jet bridges. You will be taking the stairs onto your plane.

I've flown LCY-DUB a few times.
