With all of your help we navigated London without incident. We have tix for the Downton Abbey Festival. A Since it’s Sunday, times are a struggle.. so please, once again, we can get to Aldgate East easily. We need to use the rail to Newbury, then suggested a taxi from same.
The first tube train is at 0649 from Aldgate East- a Hammersmith and City Line train bound for Hammersmith, then every 5 minutes thereafter
Paddington is the 10th station.
Journey time is 21 minutes.
It only takes 5 minutes or less to transfer within Paddington to the main line services.
So leave at 0900 (earlier if you want) for your scheduled train, and you'll have lots of time to purchase tickets and breakfast in the stores or cafes/take outs at Paddington. Even to see the Paddington Bear statue near the War Memorial, part way down Platform 1.
Leave earlier and there are lots of cafes for breakfast in the street outside the station.
Then the Newbury train as previously advised etc.
The other way to go is the Bus Route #205 every 12 minutes from outside Aldgate East to Paddington station.
That runs 24/7 and is scheduled to take 45 minutes. You have lots of time in hand tomorrow morning so can see the views from the top deck of the double decker bus. £1.75 with contactless or Oyster- no cash payments.
Paddington is the terminus.
Even in the small hours it is never less than every 20 minutes then every 15 minutes from 0505 to 0805 then every 12 minutes. It takes you past Kings Cross, St Pancras, Euston and Baker Street.
Replying from the train to Newbury. You ar all so wonderful. Be well.
The Canarvon Arms does a great Sunday roast. I stayed there when I visited Highclere. Definitely stop in if you have a chance. Enjoy Highclere!! I know I did.
Happy Travels!!
Good, everything is going well.
Yes, even in Cumbria I've been out this morning in our Community Garden without a coat- a very balmy day here.
Well both of the OP's trains ran to time. I hope they enjoyed Highclere and their planned lunch at the Cote Brasserie in Newbury.
Cote Brasserie is fine if you want an identikit high street chain with 84 outlets across the UK - they're a bit like a French version of Olive Garden. I always like to think our American chums might like something more local.
Well that was the OP's choice after her research (unless there was a last minute change, in the last 48 hours), another suggestion was made off line to Judy.
