London to Greenwich

In mid October we are enrolled in Rick Steves 7 day London tour. I have been to England many times but never to Greenwich. Can any of you comment on desirability of making Greenwich a goal to accomplish this trip to England?

Absolutely.

The Observatory, great view of London, the Painted Hall at the Royal Naval College. The College itself is interesting. Queens House for the tulip stairway and the art. Maritime Museum. There’s a shop called the Junk Shop worth a meander. So yes, I think its worth you time and effort. As Monty Python show often advertised “and now for something different.”

It's 30 minutes by tube from the center of London. Very easy. Plenty to see.

Definitely go! We arrived by boat and walked up to the Observatory - it was well worth the effort!

Your title suggests you may be under the impression that Greenwich is a trip outside London. It is in fact only 5 or 6 miles from the Tower of London.

We loved it! Took the boat there, snapping pictures all the way on a brilliant March day. We used the R.S. Guidebook tour, enjoyed a lovely pub meal, and took the DLR back, as I recall. I’d consider staying there on a future trip.

Oh, definitely go to Greenwich. We went in 2018 and toured the Observatory and stood on the Prime Meridian. It was great fun. We found a nice little restaurant in Greenwich and had lunch. We took the boat there and then trained back.

Thank you to all that replied. I have wanted to do a Thames boat trip and this obviously is the perfect opportunity. The mention of "Junk Shop" caused me to smile. Definitely will seek out tulip stairway. I was unaware Greenwich Observatory was so close to London.

I'd agree with others, it is well worth the short trip to visit Greenwich. The Painted Hall at the Royal Naval College as someone mentioned is amazing, but I'd suggest a stop at the Greenwich Market as well - some decent food options around there and a fun visit even if you're not buying anything.
