Need to go to Canterbury. Possible from London proper, or possibly from directly from Heathrow. Any insights will be appreciated. Thanks.
The dbahn website shows frequent trains, with stops, from St. Pancras and also from Waterloo. Takes about 60-90 minutes. Nothing direct from Heathrow, but you can take the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to St. Pancras, or transfer at Green Park to the Jubilee Line to Waterloo.
A train is probably your most efficient way to get there, certainly from central London. But if you'll be driving eventually, you could rent the car at Heathrow and use Via Michelin to plan your route.
Surely no trains from Waterloo to Canterbury..
Waterloo East, perhaps, on the way from Charing Cross, but not Waterloo.
Canterbury has two stations, West and East. Which do you need?
The fastest way from central London is the High Speed service direct from St Pancras.
Canterbury is only served by Southeastern Trains.
bus is the cheapest from London Victoria

or trains from Victoria, Charing Cross, St Pancras
The classic driving route from Heathrow to Canterbury avoiding London would be the M25 anticlockwise to the M2, then M2/A2 to Canterbury. Out of rush hour I'd allow 2 hours, but in a rush hour, or if there is a delay on the M25 it could be a lot longer.
Sorry I was not specific -- will not be driving. Probably take the train. It appears the East Station in Canterbury is the closest. The hotel web site (Canterbury Cathedral Lodge) implies that it is a reasonable walk from the East Station. Any additional thoughts? Many Thanks
The high speed goes to Canterbury West.
Take it to Rochester and change or take one of the slow trains from Victoria or Charing Cross, or take the high speed to West, and walk or taxi.
Many thanks for all the good information. It is greatly appreciated.
