We are arriving at LHR with plans to be in Bath for start of the tour. I'd love to see Stonehenge in route. Any ideas? Does the bus run to infrequently? Is it best to just forego Stonehenge and take the train direct to Bath?
Google Bath to Stonehenge and browse to your hearts content. Iots of possibilities, but I have not vetted this particular website.
The big question is what you would do with your luggage at Salisbury, while on the side trip to Stonehenge.
But apart from that you would take the Rail/Air bus to Woking station, then a train every 30 minutes to Salisbury, then after Salisbury the train every 30 minutes to Bath.
Then the hourly Stonehenge bus- https://www.thestonehengetour.info/bus-timetable/
If leaving Woking before 0815 on a weekday the rail fare for Woking to Bath via Salisbury (which allows a break of journey at Salisbury or anywhere else) is £47.10 per person (Anytime Day Single), after 0815 and before 12 noon (the first valid train is the 0816, anytime at weekends) then it is a Super Off Peak Single £39.10, after 12 noon (first valid train 1216) it is an Evening Out Ticket for £33.50.
All those tickets are walk up tickets so just buy at the station when you arrive.
So, luggage concerns aside, it is certainly possible.
Whether it is the best idea on a jet lagged day is a different debate.
It is a 1 hour journey from Woking to Salisbury, and a 55 minute journey Salisbury to Bath
Are you arriving to Bath the day your tour starts? IF so, this sounds like too much.
I'd probably go directly to Bath using the National Express coach (bus) which may be easier if you are jet lagged from a long flight. The meet up with the Rick Steves tour groups are usually around 5P....possibly 430 depending on what time your communication from the office says. Be sure to check at the desk when you check in to your Bath hotel as there may be a Greeting posted somewhere prominent from your guide saying the meet up time, particularly if it's different.
You will see Avebury stone circle which is nearby on your tour on the way to Stow-on-the-Wold.
Your Day 2 is in Bath and Day 3 is a day trip to Wells and Glastonbury. IF Stonehenge is a must you could skip either of those days with the group and do a day tour from Bath with a small group company called Mad Max.
Thanks all. I think going straight to Bath on the train sounds like the best option. we can check in Monday- We have most of the day Tuesday to do Stonehenge.
