There was a similar question in this forum, but so much bickering and posturing, I decided to ask anew. We will be traveling from London to Bath on Tuesday, May 9th to start our Best of England tour. Is it best to ask for assistance from our London hotel folks, or can we navigate this on our own? Calm and reasonable responses requested : ). TIA!
It is a simple train ride from London Paddington to Bath Spa, taking 1 hour 20 minutes. I don’t know what could be so controversial about it. But I never saw the previous discussion.
Buy your tickets online now to get the Advance fare of £26.50, cheaper than the regular Off-Peak fare of £39.90.
Thank you so much! The other thread was very silly : ).
If you want to National Express Coaches go from London Victoria every 1 1/2 hours with advance fares starting from £5 but it takes a lot longer at around 3 hours- some take a bit less, some take a bit more.
The most recent thread I saw related to Heathrow to Bath. That one was re-opened earlier tonight with someone unhelpfully saying to the OP 'Don't go to Bath, go to x/y/z instead'.
When I saw that response earlier I threw my hands up in total despair. Not for the first time with this forum.
Let us hope there aren't as many complications this time around. Like Lola says I would like to believe this is a really simple binary choice of train or coach, one fare on each. But who knows?
One can but hope.
Either route is simplicity itself from anywhere in Central London. Get a tube (which in this context includes the Elizabeth Line, depending where your hotel is, in most cases should be a no change tube) to either Paddington for the train, or Victoria for the bus- whichever mode suits you. Oh, or a cab or uber, if you prefer.
If you want to take 3 hours on a coach that is your choice. I am merely giving you that option. Bearing in mind that you likely have 6 hours between check out at London and check in at Bath.
And enjoy your tour when you get to Bath.
As Lola stated, the simplest way is to take the train from Paddington. It's direct, no changes. It's simple. You can buy your ticket online to save some money or, if you don't mind spending a bit more, at the train station before departure.
If you tell us where you are staying in London, we can help you with directions to Paddington. If you need them.
Underground to Paddington, main line train to Bath Spa. There are very long range advance fares that are decent but they are not too outrageous if late booking
