London theatre/restaurant suggestions

My family of six (adult children) will be in London for a day and half at the end of our trip to Scotland. We would like to have dinner and see a show the first night (we arrive by train from Edinburgh around 2 pm).

Suggestions for current theatre performance in London and restaurant in the West End? We love Les Mis, so that might be the choice to see it in London.

We are staying at the Resident Victoria. Hoping this is a good spot for the next full day and night to see a few sites and get a little taste of London. I'm sure it will make us want to return!

Thank you!

Hamilton is playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre. It is within walking distance of your hotel and would be a great option.

Many restaurants offer a pre- theatre dinner which is helpful. We had a pre-theatre dinner at The Northall and it was wonderful, food, setting, service.

Hawkesmoor is always good. It’s a steak restaurant and not cheap but a good experience. There’s one at Seven Dials in the heart of Theatreland. I saw Six recently which I would highly recommend.

If memory serves your trip is in May.

London theatre suggestions include:

Hamilton, The Lion King, Mama Mia, Jersey Boys, The Mousetrap, Wicked, Moulin Rouge, and Witness for The Prosecution.

As an aside the last play I’ve suggested is set in an actual County Hall courtroom. You could get there on foot from you hotel. 20 minute Stroll across Westminster Bridge to County Hall.

As far as being a good site to “get a taste” of London, you are 15 minutes from Buckingham Palace. If the royal standard flag is flying it means the King is in residence. If you want to “ get a taste “ of London you are blocks from the Wellington Barracks where the Royal Foot Guards reside. They march over to and back from the Changing of the Guard. Stand on the corner of Bird Cage Walk and Buckingham Gate and you’ll be able to hear and see them.

You are also close to a favorite pub, the Two Chairman. Small, traditional, historic.

Great city. Enjoy your brief stay.
