What is the best website to purchase play tickets in London

You’ve got several options.

For popular shows your best bet is to buy direct from the theatre. This is where you’ll get the best price for shows that usually sell out.

There are often good deals available on the TodayTix app for certain shows or certain dates, eg at the minute they have some of the cheapest Matilda seats going for £25 on a few days next week. These are right at the back but they usually sell for £45. If you want one of the better seats then it will be cheaper direct from the box office. They also do rush tickets which is like a lottery for cheap tickets.

For same day tickets at a discount look at the TKTS website. They list tickets from midnight for shows the same day. The level of discount varies.

I just bought a ticket to Operation Mincement for June 27. The better seats were almost sold out. I used the theater's website which routed me to the ticket vendor AGT.
If you need help deciding good from bad seats, go the Theater Monkey website https://www.theatremonkey.com/

I also recommend buying direct from the theater. You may also want to search for floor plans of the theater to ensure you don't get an obstructed view. If you're not too picky about which show you see, TKTS is the way to go.

If you want a particular show on a particular day, best to buy direct from the theatre's website or the show's website.

If you are more flexible, I always enjoy just seeing what deals they have at TKTS. You used to have to show up in person at the kiosk in Leicester Square but you can get them from their website or app (https://officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/).

Ditto the recommendation for Theatremonkey. Great resource to find out what are the good seats.

Another vote for TodayTix. Not against buying from the theatre website, but TodayTix is
reliable and secure, and is the way to go if you are mobile and want to get tickets on
the fly, or rush tickets.

You can still check out seating maps in that app, and they tell you exact seat location
before you purchase if you are looking at rush tickets.

We love London theater and enjoy going to their box office to directly chat with staff to purchase tickets. Rather real or perception we believe the direct engagement has lead to being offered a better seat selection.

So if we are interested in seeing a play, but nothing in particular, and looking for a deal, the best website is TodayTIX?

TodayTix is good to browse. Look at what deals they have and see if you fancy anything. If you want same day tickets they have the rush tickets, or look at TKTS. Midweek there are usually plenty of options available. Less at the weekends as you’d expect.

If you’re planning a trip, it would be safe to schedule a Tuesday (or other weekday except Monday when there are fewer shows) as a your theatre day, and then just get the tickets on the day once you’re in London. That’s as long as you don’t mind too much what you see.

Just browsing TKTS now they have the new Clueless musical for £35 or the Michael Jackson one for £50 in the stalls.

For same day discounted tickets, I always use the TKTS website. It is operated by the Society of London Theatre, the same group that operates the booth in Leicester Square.

For shows that are not discounted, I always use the website of the agent that operates the theatre box office as they have the greatest selection of seats.

The theatremonkey website is a great place to check seating plan reviews and it also identifies where to buy tickets:
