London Roof top bars

We are considering checking out the bar at aqua shard in the evening. It looks like a wonderful place to have a cocktail. There is an option to make reservations for the bar or to eat. The only thing is we are not sure exactly which night we would want to go. To make a reservation, you need to reserve with a credit card, and if you don’t show up, it will cost you 60 pounds.

We would probably go on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday night in mid February. Is it absolutely vital to have a reservation, or could we just show up without a reservation and get seated?
Thanks.

Sorry, I can’t answer your question, but I can offer an alternate that doesn’t require a deposit - the Heights bar on the 15th floor at the St George’s Hotel just north of Oxford Circus next door to the BBC. Great views.

I would imagine that the Shard will be busy.

Aqua Shard is on the 31st floor of the Shard so isn’t rooftop as such... even though its above many rooftops. I found the top floor of the Shard, 72?, a bit underwhelming because the weather wasn’t great and the view was restricted. There is a bar up there and the roof is open to the elements. Bare in mind that even if you do get into Aqua Shard, you might not get a table with a great view... but you might. You can still walk around inside of course. There are many great rooftop bars in London. You could book a free visit to the Sky Garden, and grab a drink at the bar while you’re there if you fancy it.

We scheduled lunch at the SkyGarden and enjoyed the food and the view very much. You can go for free (if you can get a res) and have a drink, but having a res for the restaurant allowed us to linger and enjoy the view.
