Fellow Travelers,
I'm in need of your sage advice. We're going to the Royal Court Theater mid-April and need a place to get a nice, quick meal before the play. Every time I think I've found something that looks suitable the TripAdvisor reviews leave me baffled. I have learned to screen out folks whose complaints seem minor or personal but I cannot seem to escape reading more poor reviews than I like in a selection. So I'm coming to you for help! Is TripAdvisor not an accurate reflection of a restaurant's food and service? Where do you eat in the Sloane Square area? Thanks in advance.
TripAdvisor has become a bit like Facebook and Karen dominated... I prefer Google maps
Three Darlings is round the corner, part of the Jason Atherton stable, open all day with a longer menu or an express menu. And I've been there and it's superb.
Tripadvisor is not helpful for restaurants. Look at the top recommended restaurants for the area you live in and you’ll probably find the results baffling. Google is better or look at Time Out for ideas.
There is an Ottolenghi cafe. It has great salads and light dishes but it is very small. I’ve been there twice and both times I had to wait for a table.
Thank you both for confirming my suspicions about TripAdvisor. Three Darlings sounds, well "darling" for us! Any more suggestions are welcome.
Colbert is right next to the theatre and always looks popular.
Timeout is a good place to look for restaurant reviews.
There is a Cote Brasserie on the other sisde of the Square - very reliable chain.
I’ve mostly stopped writing restaurant reviews. As soon as the cook changes, so changes the food and service changes with staff turnover. Too many times I’ve enjoyed a restaurant only to return to find it mediocre at best.
Comptoir Lebanese
Agree with Claudia - I love the Comptoir Libanais at Duke of York Square. https://www.comptoirlibanais.com/locations/chelsea/
And to the point about TripAdvisor - this location gets 3.7 stars on TripAdvisor, but 4.2 on Google. When we take folks for their first time we get a mezze platter and the mixed grill. Delicious! 😋
The last time we went to a show at Royal Court Theatre we had dinner (after) at Poule au Pot: https://www.pouleaupot.co.uk/
Excellent French restaurant and lovely ambience. It feels like you're in Paris.
