Ditto what Frank said. We enjoy visiting that area. If you’re a fan of the movie Notting Hill you can walk by some of the filming locations when you have some down time.

Notting Hill is an upmarket spot which I'm sure you'll enjoy. The tube and all forms of public transport are perfectly safe - it's how most people get around in London.

If it is truly Notting Hill. Because of its prestigious nature Notting Hill's name tends sometimes to be "borrowed" by places in the near and not so near neighbourhoods to boost the place's advertising appeal.

Just check carefully.

Do you know the specific location of the flat? Or are you looking on a site that simply indicates it is in "Notting Hill Area"

The point is, describing something as being in "Notting Hill" may be using the name, and may in fact be poorly located. The general area can go from rather posh and stylish to sort of run down. Location in relation to a tube stop, and what line, also makes a big difference on how convenient it is located.

Maybe share some more info on the flat and location and better advice will come along.

I'd never book anything without knowing the exact address. Aside from the amorphous borders of some neighborhoods, people lie.

I've stayed more than once on Pembridge Square, one long block from the Notting Hill Gate Underground station. I walked that block (mostly large townhouses converted into flats or B&Bs, as I recall) frequently after dark, though not often very late at night. It felt safe, but I was typically the only person on that long (non-commercial) block, which I think would bother some people.

There are restaurants and at least one supermarket down near the Underground station, and Portobello Road is within walking distance. Holland Park and Kensington Gardens are also walkable.

Notting Hill is very central. Great spot. Definitely go to Portobello Road Market, "street where the riches of ancients are sold".

We are planning a trip to London in May and would love to know more detail about your flat. We are looking at the same area too.
Thanks,
