London Neighborhoods to explore

Hello all,
We are visiting London next week for about 10 days. Our itinerary has plenty of museums, walks, and markets in it, but we would also like to explore different Neighborhoods in order get a great feel for the city.
I would love any recommendations.

Thanks,
BT

London Walks might have tours to some of those places during your time in London. I enjoyed the Hampstead walk last year. I also did the Highgate walk (which I thought was a bit less interesting) and hung around afterward to see Highgate Cemetery on my own. The walks last about 2 hours and cost £10 as of last September.

We were in London in December and took a Food Tour of East London, visiting Old Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane, and Shoredich. It was a great introduction to the the area. Here is the link: https://www.eatingeurope.com/london/. I have also taken London Walks tours in past trips, I especially enjoyed exploring Kensington and Chelsea. Thanks for the advice. My daughter lived in the Shoreditch area while studying in London, so we had a brief intro to that area a few years ago and loved it. It may need further exploration.

Cheers !

Belgravia, close to Buckingham Palace. Beautiful houses/townhouses, interesting streets and attractive gardens and squares Most of the houses are on leasehold land owned by the Grosvenor Family aka the Duke of Westminster.

Look at some of the “villages” such as Chiswick, Highgate, Hampstead or Richmond which are different in character, being slightly further out than the other recommendations that you have had.

The area around St Bartholomew the Great is a nice area to explore--no crowds and it has an old London feel. The church is worth a look and several movies have been filmed there. One was Four Weddings and a Funeral..

Hampstead, Hampstead Heath, Belsize Park, Golders Green, Chiswick, Bermondsey, Islington, Shadwell and Wapping, Shoreditch.

All unique, all quite different one from the other. All with major contributions to the development of London - without any of them the city would be much different than it is today.

I've been on London Walks' Old Marylebone and Bermondsey. Both were well done. As others have mentioned, I'd look at their schedule for the dates you plan to be there to see what's on tap. Nice to have a guided walk through history!

I second the recommendation for London Walks. My favourite neighbourhood is Marylebone.

I love London Walks as well and have done "neighborhood" walks in Belgravia (shocked to find that for a time Mozart lived down the street from my usual hotel!), Chelsea, Highgate and another one that I can't remember the name of but included walking thru Regent's Park.

I also have used the blog A Lady in London. She has a number of self-guided walks. I've done the Kensington one as I was staying at a hotel at the end of it so walked the route in reverse about halfway then cut up to Kensington Gardens. I've no connection to her or her blog, just like some of her ideas.

I once stayed in Vauxhill at an Airbnb, and loved the neighborhood feel of the area, and even met our neighbors. Another time (This past New Year's) we stayed in Bermondsey... LOVED this neighborhood. Quirky little shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Nearest tube was London Bridge. Also, just past the London Bridge station is Borough Market, which I HIGHLY recommend:)

Have fun!
