London Itinerary help

Hello,

I am putting the final touches on my itinerary and would love to get some opinions.

Sunday- Arrive via Eurostar around 11:30am. Get the 7 day national rail travel card (cheaper than 3 single days) for use with 241 deals. Check into hotel in Kensington. Take the hop on hop off bus tour. Possibly ending night with London Eye.

Monday- take the hop on hop off bus walking tour for changing of the guard. Walk to Westminster abbey, using 241 discount for entry. Do the Rick Steve’s Westminster walk.

Tuesday- Go to Tower of London, staying until about 1 or 2pm. Do Queens walk from tower bridge back to westminster. Late afternoon free.

Wednesday- depart.

Anything else we should consider doing while there? I realize we have a limited amount of time. I have been before in 2017, but my mom has not.

When are you going? Some attractions fall off of 241 in the summer.

We are going in March. I have double checked the dates and we should be okay. I got bit with that in July 2017 with none being valid.

Thanks!

Changing of the Guard is a waste of time and effort during your short stay. Instead check to see if the Horse Guards schedule works with yours. Far less crowded. .

On Monday after visiting Parliament Square, walk up WhiteHall to Trafalgar Square and then into Leicester Square to the 1/2 price Ticket booth for same day theatre tickets. Have lunch at Dishoom in Covent Garden. Back to accommodation to freshen up. Tube to theatre!

Tuesday on your free day tube from Westminster to Greenwich.

London folks: Is the ticket line short enough at Westminster Abbey to make use of the 2-for-1 deal practical? I know the line at the Churchill War Rooms usually makes buying a ticket in advance the smart way to go.

Adding to what Claudia said, if the weather is fine you can take one of the Thames boats from Westminster to Greenwich and come by by the underground (or the other way around, or both by boat).

You are paying well over the top for the 2-for-1 deal by buying 7-day travelcards at £36.10 each since from your description you are hardly using public transport at all.

You only need two National Rail singles to bookend your trip, ie one into London for the Sunday and one out of London on Tuesday/Wednesday (possibly even one you'd be using anyway, since you haven't said where you are going to on Wednesday).

Use Oyster / suitable contactless payment for your London travel.

We are coming into London via Eurostar on Sunday and leaving via Eurostar on Wednesday.

What train ticket should I purchase and will I be able to purchase from St. Pancras?

If you are just travelling around London (which I think you are), then just buy an Oyster Card per person and add credit; or use a contactless debit or credit card (per person). That is the cheapest and easiest way to get around London.

Monday- take the hop on hop off bus walking tour for changing of the guard.

DO NOT use a Hop-on Hop-off bus to get around London. Slow, infrequent and limited routes. Only use it if you want the commentary and introduction to where things are.
To get around use the tube or buses (with your Oyster or contactless card). Cheaper and faster.
