London itinerary

Hi,

We will be travelling in July (hubby and two kids-17yrs and 9yrs). We will be in Paris for 4.5 days then London for 4.5 days. Paris itinerary has pretty much been worked out, needing to figure out the london leg of the trip. We are taking the train from Paris to London. It's not booked yet, so don't know what time we'll be getting into London, but hoping for midday.

What can we do in London that first day, if we don't get in until lunch time (ish)? We won't be jetlagged like when we land in Paris. Also, we have tickets to the keys ceremony that first night so what we need is something for the afternoon of that first day only.

The rest of the London days are still being figured out but if anyone wants to give suggestions and/or combinations that would be appreciated as well.

Thank you

You go back an hour when travelling from Paris to London, it may help.

Take a riverboat to Greenwich, and get off at the Tower for the Keys when you are returning.

Get to your hotel and drop your bags, explore the neighborhood, get Oyster cards for the tube and buses, and see if you can visit a nearby sight that's on your London list. Can't help much more without knowing where the hotel is and what you want to see in London.

The Greenwich idea is appealing, especially if that's someplace you'll want to see in your 4-5 days. A river boat ride is a good way to orient yourselves to the city. Or you could walk along the south bank and maybe halfway across the pedestrian Millenium bridge. The London Eye, on the south bank across from Westminster, would give you a city overview but on a summer afternoon you might waste too much time in line. I think they sell timed tickets but you'd want to be careful about committing yourself to a time on your arrival day.
