London Hotels in Decembr

I just posted about the Paris end of a planned trip in early December but would also like hotel recommendations for London too. On previous trips, we have always stayed in Westminster, but this time we are thinking of staying closer to the theater district. I have seen several seemingly good hotels on Kayak/Trivago under $300, but when I dig a little deeper into the deals, those prices are pay now-no cancellation rates. Twenty years ago the reviews on the Strand or the Thistle brand hotels weren't great, they seem better now. If anyone has any experience with them, I'm all ears. Same question really for anything within about 6 blocks of Piccadilly or Leicester Square area.

Thanks.

Look at either the Resident Covent Garden or the Resident Soho. While I haven't stayed at either, I'm a regular at their Resident Kensington.

There are a number of hotels right at Leicester Square. If you like the Radisson brand, there’s there Radisson Blu Edwardian Hampshire. It was renovated a few years ago. We usually stay at the Radisson on Cromwell Road.

It's pretty normal nowadays to get a better rate with a pay ahead/non-refundable option (and if you are pretty confident in your dates it shouldn't be an issue!). I'll be staying at the Resident Soho for the first time next weekend so can report back, but it gets great reviews. They have a free to join membership program and some additional deals on staying 3+ nights so it worked out to a little under $300 a night for us.

Thanks to all. As mimieprice said, I like the pay ahead/non-refundable option, but in this case I'm glad I didn't do it since it turns out we aren't going to get to go right now. There's lways spring/summer I guess.
