Hotel Indigo on Leicester Square

My husband and I will be staying 3 nights in London: May 23-26. I did a pretty exhaustive search looking for a centrally located hotel for less than $250 per night. The options are slim! The last time we were in London in May 2015 we stayed at an AirBnB in SoHo and loved the location, but the apartment had a few flaws (including very low water pressure in the shower) that we were disappointed with. So this time I found an "opening rate" at the Hotel Indigo on Leicester Square and decided to grab that.

We got a superior queen room for 175 GBP per night, including breakfast, wifi and late check out. The downside is we had to pay up front, so we can't change our minds now unless we're willing to throw way $750 :-( I had never heard of Hotel Indigo before but they have several other properties around London and the rest of the world that look very "boutique-y" nice and are well reviewed on Trip Advisor; I'm willing to take the risk.

It looks like the opening rate is still available on their website if anyone wants to check it out. I just did the search for the dates we'll be there and prices have bumped up a bit to 199 GBP per night for a standard room. They also have a less expensive room they call a Theatre Room: "Theatre rooms are designed to have no natural daylight" I prefer windows in my hotel room thanks...but if you don't care there's a cheaper option.

What do the majority of the online reviews say about this specific property? For payment up front, I would want to see a substantially positive review track record first about this property, not others in the same hotel chain.

The idea of a "theatre room" sounds repulsive and I personally would not stay in a property that advertised rooms that are windowless. But that's just my POV. Read the reviews from the past 12 months and if you see an overwhelming majority favor the property (assuming there aren't just 6 reviews with 4 loving it), consider it.

Hotel Indigo is a well known International Chain, part of IHG which has Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza, and Kimpton brands, among others. I have stayed in Indigos (not this one) and always found them to be very nice, modern in style, clean, overall upscale compared to most other options.

IHG will offer their best rates with prepayment, for a bit more you probably could have gotten some type of cancellation; at this point I would just relax and enjoy.

The Leicester Square property hasn't opened yet - so there are no reviews yet! That's why they're calling it an "Opening Rate" I really just wanted to spread the word in case anyone else is interested in the offer, including the (pre-payment) strings attached. I have enough faith in the other Indigo reviews that this one will be good. I think the hotel opens either this month or next month so it will still be pretty new when we check in.

To add to what Paul said, Indigo is in the hotel group he described.
Be sure to sign up for their rewards program so that you get points with your stay.
The downside is London hotels are expensive.
The upside is that you accrue points like mad staying in London because of the high cost.
Thus, you will have lots of points when you come home to the U.S.
We stayed at a Hilton in London one time for a week.
Came home, were shocked at how many points we had earned.
Spent 4 free nights in Charleston on points.
Takes the bite out of paying London hotel prices.

That address is perfect and 175 GBP is far preferable to 199 GBP. I've stayed at many hotel rooms without a window and it has never been a big deal, but that's me. Unless there's a decent view, which is rare in urban hotels that don't cost a fortune, I figure at least without a window I won't be woken up with morning light and no windows can help reduce the chance of construction noise or the garbage trucks at 6 AM. But, of course, some people can get claustrophobic in a room without windows and I completely understand that.

I’ve stayed at the Indigos at both Paddington (once) and Earls Court (3 or 4 times) on points or using my free night. They are my favorite of the IHG chain. Good showers, fridge in room, etc.

Nothing wrong with Indigo. They are currently expanding into the UK, as the high-end boutique flavour of the IHG range, beyond or equivalent to Crowne Plaza.

You can't very well expect many ratings on a brand new build.

My colleague who uses the entire range of IHG almost every week says nothing but good things about Indigo.

YMMV, of course.

"Theatre rooms are designed to have no natural daylight"

To me it sounds like a room where the windows open out to a closed yard, so the sun never reaches the windows.

That £175 is for a Superior double, not a windowless theatre room. That is a fantastic rate.

We stay at the Paddington Indigo every visit, on the last night before flying home. We love the modern vibe and the excellent shower. We got started with them in 2013 when they were still offering a government rate that was not tied to being on official business. You just needed government ID. I think we paid £140 for a nice double room. Now they do not offer that rate but we still like to stay there.

Regarding the prepaid non-refundable rate, when we wanted to change dates of stay on our 2016 trip, they were willing to credit the amount toward the same class of room on a different night. The new date was at the regular rate and we had to pay the difference, but at least we did not lose out upfront payment with the change.

With a 3 night stay it is well worth joining the IHG program to accumulate points. We add to ours by staying at dog-friendly Holiday Inns when we travel around the US. And the airport Holiday Inn was perfect for our one-night stay in Santiago Chile on our way to Patagonia. We now have enough points for a free night at the Paddington Indigo on our 2019 trip.
