We will be flying into London (Heathrow) for three days before heading to Paris for BOE 14 tour. Plan to take Eurostar (Chunnel) from London to Paris and hit as many of the typical London tourist spots as we can in the three days there. Need hotel recommendations on moderately priced, centrally located hotels.
What's your actual budget per night in £?
You might look at hotels in the St Pancras/KingsCross area. There are many hotels within walking distance to St Pancras, your train station for the Eurostar to Paris. I stayed at the Crestfield Hotel recently and considered it to be a decent deal. Bus and Underground connections are plentiful in the area. From Heathrow the Piccadilly underground goes directly to KingsCross without a train change. Then you can easily get to St Pancras for your trip to Paris.
We are staying at the Royal Park Hotel near Paddington Station next week, I'll let you know how it was
Really depends on your budget.....You could probably stay at Park Plaza Westminster. I was there in May. They have great rooms, its very central to the major sites (literally Big Ben is right across the bridge and you can see it from the lobby/eating area). The tube is a close 4 minute walk, as well as Waterloo station.
I always stay at the Premier Inn at Kings Cross, which is right across the street from Paddington /King's Cross Station. There are many Premier Inn branches throughout London, but this one works well if you are taking Eurostar. I also like the branch at County Hall -- great central location.
I've stayed at the Premier Inn St. Pancras. It's the newest of the Premier Inns in that area and is one block from St. Pancras.
I stayed after arriving from Paris on the Eurostar at St. Pancras and leaving for Edinburgh the next morning from King's Cross. Very Convenient. The rooms have double windows so they are completely soundproof.
The British Library is directly across the street.
The Citadines at Trafalgar Square is very conveniently located for visiting many of the most popular tourist attractions.
Yes, it's St. Pancras/King's Cross -- thanks for the correction!
This isnt in any way part of your question, but I would plan to travel to Paris the day before your tour starts. I am pretty risk averse when it comes to travel and the first day of a tour so I build in time for strikes and/or other delays. Last Fall when taking the Eurostar London to Paris we were 101 minutes late due to a cable theft on the high speed line. Some of the earlier trains were cancelled.
In St. Pancras/King's Cross are I always stay at the Jesmond Dene on Argyle St.
About 2 blocks from the stations. check out their website
Jesmond Dene
Not sure what "moderately priced" means, but we found the prices at The Celtic very reasonable. The place is not fancy, but it had a nice bed, the staff were very pleasant, and it was close to a tube station and just a few blocks from the British Museum. Was it my favorite hotel on our trip to England? No, but it met our needs and helped our budget.
