London hotel question

I’m preplanning my London stay for Sept 1-6, 2022, before going to Paris, on to South of France tour and ending in Venice. I’m trying to save a few bucks. So I’m wondering if anyone has stayed at Cherry Court Hotel near Victoria Station and what’s your opinion of the hotel and the area.

It’s about half the price of nearby hotels but has good reviews and is mentioned in RS London guidebook. Since the rooms are minuscule, I would get a double for me (5 nights). A friend from Dublin will meet me for an overnight or two, so I plan to pay for her single room.

Besides it’s £75/night price, I’m looking at the hotel’s central location. My tentative itinerary goes from Kensington Palace to the British Museum with a day trip to Hampton Court and a trip down river to Tower of London (both are probably closer than I think).

Thanks!

I liked the area around Victoria Station when I stayed at the Lime Tree Hotel in 2017. Attractive neighborhood with restaurants and close to subway and of course Victoria Station.

I haven't stayed there. I looked through the website and the one thing I noticed was the absence of a lift. If stairs are not an issue for you and your friend than this shouldn't be a problem. If they are, you may want to keep looking. The location and price do look good.

Research 63 Bayswater. Room 105 is very small but perfectly laid out for a solo traveler.

Very well maintained property. Safe and clean. Have stayed there at least a dozen times.

Close to Paddington ( 10 minute stroll ), breakfast included in the price, Hyde Park across the road and the Lancaster Gate Underground station 5 minutes away.

Thus you could stroll through Hyde Park to Kensington Palace and use the London Underground to get to Waterloo for your train ride to Hampton Court.

If you’d like a pub lunch or a pint I prefer The Mitre Paddington. Fewer tourists than the adjacent Swan pub.

Lastly, one of my favorite food finds is close by, Tudkin, Flavors of Malaysia. These days you should make a reservation.

Safe travels.

I'm sure that hotel has been mentioned on the forum; try the Search function. I vaguely remember generally-positive comments, so the information I'm posting below should not be interpreted as an effort to discourage you from staying at the Cherry Court. I like to support independent hotels.

As I recall, the Cherry Court isn't air conditioned, so I'd recommend checking the actual, historical, day-by-day weather data on timeanddate.com on your travel dates for the last five years to see what the risk is of hot weather. For me, the early-September 2021 data looks risky.

The hotels around Waterloo Station are convenient to both the Waterloo and Westminster tube stations. I've stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall, but there's a Hub by Premier Inn in that area as well. The Hubs, less expensive (but normally more costly than the Cherry Court) have small rooms, but as a solo traveler you might be OK with that; I would be. Do check to see what the website says about whether you'd have a window if that matters to you.

Premier Inns are efficiently-run and well-priced. They are not charming, but most are air conditioned. Premier Inn rates are usually quite a bit lower for early reservations. There are both refundable and non-refundable options; the gap between those categories is likely to widen as the arrival date approaches. The "Flex" option allows cancellation up to 1 PM on day of arrival. The "Advance" option allows cancellation up to 28 days prior to arrival, after which the entire cost of the reservation is non-refundable. However, as I read the cancellation policy, it appears you can shift the dates of a reservation for the same type of room at the same hotel and just pay any difference between the current and original rates.

The Cherry Court website indicates a 7-day cut-off for refunds, which would make me nervous, especially for the first hotel of a trip. The longer you're staying, the greater the risk when a hotel is going to hold on to your entire payment rather than just the cost of the first night.

My boss used to live in a flat near the Cherry Court Hotel. There were a lot of great pubs and restaurants in the neighborhood that might never get a mention in a guidebook, but they were great just the same.

Between 2000 and 2010, I/we stayed there many, many times. So my first hand experience is dated, but it was our home in London before my daughter had an apartment large enough for us to stay with her…once she moved there. I digress. By the time of our last visit, it was like staying with family. Mrs Patel is lovely, and it looks like her dentist daughter is now taking an active part as well. It is a very safe area. It is quiet, but convenient to bus and train stations, and restaurants. Easy subway from Heathrow. George’s Pub, on the closest corner had a lovely breakfast. I have stayed there with my husband, with my daughter, with both and when solo. The rooms are clean, safe, and small, with tiny, but functional ensuites. I don’t suggest the single on the ground floor because it is right next to the reception desk…so hard to sleep late in the morning. As a solo I would now get a double room. As someone said there is no elevator that I recall, but this is not a tall building. IMO Oh, and the mattresses are great.

Again, I love this hotel family.

That is the area we stay in when in London. It is convenient to Victoria Station with good pubs and restaurants in the area. We have used a variety of hotels in the area including the Cherry Court, Lime Tree, and a couple of others that have closed. The last three times we have used the Best Western VS. Couple of blocks further from VS but a good property. The annex is fairly inexpensive -- relative to London prices. Great breakfast place around the corner.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and suggestions.

Wray, your experience at the Cherry Court is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Frank, E Prophet and Judy, it’s good to know that the neighborhood is good.

Acraven, I should have looked at the search feature. Thanks for reminding me. Unfortunately most of the posts were 4 to 7 years old, but it sounds like nothing has really changed.
The hotel does have A/C. Coming out of AZ’s 100*+ summer heat, most days in London will feel cool.
The 7-day cut-off for refunds doesn’t bother me. I won’t be making hotel reservations for several months and I will have trip insurance for the unforeseen.

Carol, I am aware there is no lift. Two flights of stairs are about my limit but that is where the double rooms are. My friend is young, runs daily so shouldn’t have problems with stairs.

I’ll look at everyone’s hotel suggestions but I’m leaning to Victoria Station area for price and location/convenience. I’m sure I can live with Cherry Court’s tiny rooms and hot pink walls, as long as it’s clean, friendly and safe. Of course things can change in the next 10 months…
