Hi Judy, I decided to cancel my stay at Hotel 63 (it’s a bummer they are closing) and booked at the Premier Inn Paddington Station Carol now retired referenced. We stayed there in October 2024 and enjoyed our stay. It’s very reasonably priced- in line with Hotel 63. It had just opened when we stayed there, so the rooms were spotless. Reviews still look good, so fingers crossed! Very convenient to get to/from LHR, too esp with the Heathrow Express. ~20 minutes and no stops is a nice perk. If you book your HE tickets early, they are about the same as taking the Elizabeth Line.

Info about the Heathrow Express discount, you have to purchase more than 30 days ahead to qualify but it's only 10 pound one way. Depending on time of day it's definitely cheaper than Elizabeth line. Only catch is they're non refundable for the early discount fare.

Assuming you will have one or more bags that you wish to leave behind at your hotel while you're visiting the palace, etc., I think I'd want to be as close to Paddington as possible so I'm not schlepping my bag(s) after a long day. I would pick the Premiere Inn, as well.

63 was my go to on any London trip. Before I favored 63 I would stay in the Vancouver Studio Aparts. Be forewarned there’s no elevator. As noted staying at the Premier Inn across the road from Paddington station is also an option.

If you are only staying for one night, and after that night you are going to an exhibition at Buckingham Palace, why are you staying near Paddington? Just to take the Heathrow Express?

Why not get a hotel near Buckingham Palace? This way, in the morning, you walk over for the exhibition, then walk back to your hotel to get your luggage. From there either take the Underground to Heathrow or the National Express coach.

No need to go back and forth to the Paddington area just to take the Heathrow Express. Both the Underground and the National Express coach will cost less than the discounted Heathrow Express and you won't have the extra cost of traveling on the tube between Paddington and Buckingham Palace. (Or did you plan to walk the two miles between these two places?)

If the Hilton at Heathrow is the Hilton Garden Inn at Terminal 2, then the entrance to the Underground and the Heathrow Coach Station are closer than the entrance to the Heathrow Express.

Claudia, I am sad about the closure of Hotel 63, it appealed to me in so many ways! I received my refund yesterday. On the thread about the Hotel 63 closure, someone mentioned The Rembrandt Hotel not too far from the Knightsbridge tube stop which would be fairly close to Buckingham Palace. The pictures look lovely and they serve Afternoon Tea, a bigger fan has never been found (me)!

Frank II, I am now thinking along the same lines, of why do I need to stay near Paddington and the efficiency of staying near Buckingham Palace for my exhibition visit?

Now I am asking myself, why only one night? Why not stay 3 nights and take in more of London? I will have to explore changing my Hilton Garden Inn reservation (non refundable) and my flight home. The Rembrandt Hotel could be an enjoyable option!

If you have the time and can afford to eat the cost of the airport hotel, possibly a fee for changing your flight home, and the extra cost for a few extra days in London, go for it! If those things exceed your budget then I'd stick to your plan.

CL, I checked my airport hotel reservation and it can be changed. Now I will check with my airline on changing the date of departure.

I want to see Paddington and it is available while I'm there but many plays, for example, by the National Theatre or the Globe are not on when I'm in town. I need to do more research into concerts, etc.

It aounds like you currently have one night in London followed by a night at Heathrow.

How early is your flight from Heathrow? You might also consider 2 nights near Paddington and then taking the Heathrow Express the morning of your flight. You only need to get up about 20 minutes earlier than you would at a Heathrow hotel and you wouldn’t waste time checking out and in on your last full day. I know a lot of people like to stay at the airport the night before flying home but I feel like I am wasting an evening in London when I have to go to the airport the night before. I only do this when I have a flight that leaves too early to get a train to the airport.

My flight leaves at 9 am and that's why I'm staying at the airport hotel.

I'm now looking into extending my stay.

The Heathrow Express starts running at 4:34am on April 16th so it would be possible to get to the airport for a 9am flight. Obviously, the trade off is you would have to get up a little bit earlier than at an airport hotel.

Let me suggest you look at the Resident Victoria hotel. It's literally one block from the Kings Gallery.

While they don't serve tea, they do offer a free glass of wine every evening between 5:30 and 6:30.

To make you aware. There are three lines from Heathrow going into central London.
The Heathrow express which goes as far as Paddington.
The Elizabeth line, with it's modern trains, goes into Paddington and beyond into the eastern part of the city.
The Piccadilly Line. Part of the old tube system. Follows a more direct route into the centre via the South Western suburbs. Quite a lot of stops but can get you into South Kensington very quickly, which has many hotels.
When I'm booking a hotel, location within central London is way down in my priorities as it is so easy to get around.

Because London is always a good idea, I decided 3 nights is a better idea than only 1 night. So, I booked a room at The Rembrandt Hotel for 3 nights based on recommendations from forum folks. I checked out their website. I cancelled the airport hotel reservation, changed my return flight home and now I will book theatre tickets and explore other activities that are on while I'm there.

I stayed at Hotel 63 Bayswater twice. The first time was good enough that I booked it again for this past summer. I was very disappointed. Yes, the location is convenient, but I think they let things slip too much. My shower door was broken and wouldn't stay closed if you were in it or not. You had to perpetually lean on the door while showering or the water would splash on the door to the outside floor (and not hit your body). I informed them and got the runaround for three days ("the maintenance guy is coming today..."). And my room was extremely small. I can stand a basic, tiny room. But there was literally nowhere to put your luggage other than on the bed. I think they converted an old linen closet into another room to squeeze some pounds out of the place before shutting down. Good riddance.

PharmerPhil unfortunate you had such a bad experience at 63 as so many of us on the Forum enjoyed our stays.

Would love to know where you found to stay in London that makes you happy. Perhaps you’ll share.

As I said, I had had a previous stay at 63 Bayswater that was pleasant. I just surmise they let things slip, and am not surprised they are closing. On my most recent trip (May this year) this was the only place I stayed in London, but I went on to stay in Winchester at The Wykeham Arms, and Portsmouth at the Royal Maritime Hotel. Both of which I can highly recommend.

On my last previous stay in London (2022) I stayed at 63 Bayswater and at a Point A hotel near St. Pancreas. Both stays were perfectly satisfactory (the Point A doesn't set high expectations, but you get what you pay for, and it was very convenient for catching a train to Edinburgh). Other trips from longer ago included a friend's flat in Notting Hill (fabulous) and an air BnB flop-house in the South Bank which was completely forgettable and is a case study in why cities don't like "Air BnBs".
