We're signed up for a 7 day London tour in October. We plan to arrive a few days early and stay a few days after. The tour hotel (Washington Mayfair) is quoting a rate of GBP 210 - we would prefer something closer to or under GPB 175. Clean, safe & convenient to public transportation are our major concerns. I've tried: Luna Simone & Lime Tree - both full and the reply from Morgan House is they are closed. Any suggestions? Anyone stayed at St. David's (on Norfolk Square near Paddington Station)?
Anyone stayed at B&B Belgravia?
The Nadler hotel in Kensington. Offering Small Double for GPB 152 or Standard Double GPB 166. Have not stayed there.
Have stayed at the Vancouver Studio Apartments in the Bayswater neighborhood more than once. A quick look at the website says your standard double is GPB 154. Good luck.
Are you okay with a chain hotel? If so, the Holiday Inn Express- Swiss Cottage is clean, often very cheap by London standards, (figure 70-90 GBP a night) indifferent breakfast included, and pretty much kitty corner to both the Finchley Road tube station (one stop past Baker Street on the Metropolitan Line in like Zone 1 or 2) and a shopping area with a Pizza Express, Nando's Chicken, Wagamama, etc. Very safe area that's convenient to many places, and not a ton of hotels in the Swiss Cottage area so the area has a nice neighborhood feel.
Get a room on the hill side rather than street side, and you can open up your window and hear the children at the primary school up the hill at play. I almost hate to give it more publicity because right now it can be a screaming deal if you book at the right time.
Finchley Road is in Zone 2, and is not only served by the Metropolitan Line but also by the Jubilee Line.
There's also the number 13 bus right outside, and its newer friend the 213.
