Hi Everyone!
I am planning a last minute trip to London for 8 nights in July. I am looking for a decent 3 star hotel to stay in. Hoping to not go over $250 per night. I like the Hyde Park area but I am open to other areas. Hotel just needs to be in walking distance to the Tube. I have looked at the Huttons hotel, The President Hotel, and the Thistle Kensington Garden hotel Can anyone comment on these hotels or suggest a different one? Thanks in advance!
Try the Millennium Gloucester. A quick check of some random dates in July shows it to be in your budget. My husband and his mother stayed there last year and were well pleased with it. He and I stayed at the Millennium Bailey's around the corner a few years ago but that one is pricing higher. They are very close to the tube. Good luck!
Check availability of the Vancouver Studio Apartments in Bayswater or the Jesmond Dene Hotel in Kings Cross. Have stayed in both. Both safe and secure. Both in your price range.
Check out The Nadler in South Kensington. No breakfast but they have a small kitchenette with microwave and fridge. Less than 5 minute walk away from Earl's Court tube stop. http://www.thenadler.com/kensington.shtml
The Club Quarters Hotel at Lincoln's Inn Fields has rooms in July - it's a 4 star hotel and rates seem to start at 160 pounds a night. Website: https://clubquartershotels.com/london/lincolns-field-inn
I recommend it because I stayed there this past December and it was GREAT. I am deeply frugal (okay, CHEAP) and was amazed at the value.
It's a block and a half from the High Holborn tube stop, 2 - 3 blocks from the Strand, Somerset house and King's College London, about a 5 minute walk from Covent Garden, and near the Royal Opera House and theatre district. The neighborhood is wonderful. There's a nice big Sainsbury on the corner as you exit the tube stop, which is a bonus if you're a frugal traveler who packs edibles back to the hotel room. Many excellent pubs and restaurants are within a minute or two walk in any direction from the hotel.
Reception is friendly and attentive, rooms are spotless, the beds are very comfy, and they have these amazing work tables in each room with electrical adapters built right into them! The atmosphere is sort of club-y, in a good way. There's a small, efficient business center in the lobby, and a big modern fireplace with comfy couches and chairs puled up around it. There is even a small, well-appointed gym!
Anyway, really liked it, and already plan on staying there this fall. Cheers!
Thank you Kira, I am looking into it. Do you know if they offer a continental breakfast or something we can pay for at the hotel?
Thanks!
The London Elizabeth, 3 Lancaster Terrace. Two minute walk to Lancaster Gate tube station, around the corner from a great pub The Swan, across the street from Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens.
I think we are settling on Thistle Bloomsbury Park Hotel. Does anyone have any comments on this hotel? Seems to be centrally located and in my price range.
After one night a few years back checked out. Very unimpressive staff, rooms, etc. Noisy, not well kept.
Recent Trip Advisor reviews tell me not much has changed. I'm going to PM another option for you to check.
