London Heathrow to Gloucester Road

We are arriving at Heathrow about 7 am a week from Thursday. We have not been to London in a long time - have no problems navigating the NYC Subways or Paris Metro.

It looks like we could take the London Underground from Heathrow to Gloucester Road. But, I am guessing it will likely be rather crowded and we will each have a carry-on suitcase.

Suggestions? It looks like if we take the Heathrow Express we are going to wind up on the opposite side of the city and still have to combat crowds. Should we consider the National Express? I can't figure out the website instructions - can you book it when you arrive?

It is faster, easier, and cheaper to take the tube as long as you can manage some stairs. I often stay near Gloucester Road tube station.

You don't have to worry too much about crowds because you will get on at first stop. The trip is about 40 minutes. There are some stairs between the Piccadilly line platform and the lift to the street level at the Gloucester Road station.

I agree with the other Laura - the Tube trains have always had plenty of space for people and luggage when I boarded them at the airport, which is the end of the line.
