I have a 14 hour layover between AA flights from Istanbul to Philadelphia. What are my hotel options at the airport? Does that require me to retrieve all my luggage and recheck in the next morning?
No, you shouldn’t have to retrieve your luggage. It should be able to be checked through unless it is not on one ticket.
I suggest looking at Hilton Garden Inn , terminal 2 as its location will be convenient.
You need to ask the airline. Often, if not usually, overnight connection baggage must be reclaimed and rechecked.
Also, I doubt AA flies London to Istanbul, likely a BA flight.
You are correct. BA from Istanbul to LHR and then AA from LHR to Philadelphia. So I will have to retrieve my luggage. Thanks,
I don’t think you will need to retrieve your luggage, but double check with your airlines. I’ve connected American to British Airways ( and British Airways to American) with an overnight at Heathrow without needing to retrieve in the past. You will want to pay attention to the terminal numbers for your flights.
I'd contact the airline directly to confirm about the luggage. Sometimes the answer depends on the length of the layover. And I believe you will need to get a UK ETA, since I dont think there are any hotels airside.
A couple of weeks ago I flew from Mumbai, India (BOM) to SFO, with an overnight layover at LHR, on Virgin Atlantic. To my surprise, they checked my bag through from BOM to SFO....according to the agent, if the layover is less than 24 hours, they can through check, even if overnight. So check with your airline.
As to a hotel - which terminal(s) are you going to be flying in and out of? What time (early morning, late night, etc)? What is your budget?
