London Gatwick Airport transportation to St. Johns Woods stop

Hello
We are traveling to London next week and land in Gatwick in the early afternoon. My friend lives near the tube stop St. John's Wood's.
We would like to take public transportation, what do you suggest?

Train from Gatwick to London Bridge station and change to the Jubilee line to St Johns Wood.

TfL will suggest you travel via Victoria, then change at Green Park. This is notionally quicker but it depends if the extra change is bothersome. The downside of London Bridge is during commuting time but it seems you should miss the start of the evening period.

I'm not so sure, Marco, et al.

I don't know what early afternoon exactly means, but I might throw out the possibility of 2pm. mquin6, can you let us know, and what day of the week? It is important.

So if wheels stopped at 14:00, through the frosted doors at 15:30, as much as half an hour to get to South Terminal and buy a train ticket, down to the platform and onto the next train which will take the best part of an hour seems to put our intrepid traveler in the midst of the London Bridge scrum at about 17:00. Then across London on what is likely a quite busy Jubilee Line train.

That's why I was looking for the day and the time of arrival. Sundays and Saturdays will have fewer trains and fewer crowds.

The 82 bus runs from direct from Victoria Station to St Johns Wood, providing an interesting alternative, particularly since it starts there so would be empty. May even have a stop a little closer to your actual destination. Luggage space limited of course and slower.

Thank you everyone for the helpful information. We arrive early afternoon and on a Saturday so commuters should not be an issue.
