London - Friends of the City Churches

I hope you don’t mind me leaping on the back of your post Gerry but I thought people might also be interested in the work of the charity Friends of Friendless Churches.
They look after and repair old churches, preserving their architecture and history. Similar to the above organisation you can also arrange to visit many of the churches. They look after some really old and unique properties mostly in rural areas.

I heard about the Friends of Friendless Churches when their director appeared on The Rest is History podcast (episode 96 apparently). She was so enthusiastic and entertaining.Worth a listen if you have a spare hour.

I had an appointment at Bart's Hospital today and happened to pass by St Bartholomew the Less church, which is in the grounds of the hospital. I had a peek in the door, but was keen to get home and get my pj's on. Both St Bartholomew the Great and St Bartholomew the Less are open every day for visitors and services. A good pair of starter City churches to visit I reckon, when you know for sure they're going to be open in the day every day.

There is also the Churches Conservation Trust which cares for over 350 redundant churches across the UK. These vary from quite small ancient churches to Victorian or even later ones. Each is very different and there are some absolute gems to be found.

Some are left open, others you need to contact the keyholder for access.
