We're going to arrive London via train in the afternoon of Wednesday April 10. We're planning to walk around and explore our neighborhood and Covent Garden for a while. We're also planning to use the 2 for 1 voucher for the HOHO bus and get acquainted with the city. We're contemplating hopping off the bus at the London Eye and going for a ride on the Eye, just for fun as we've never been. Again, using the 2 for 1 voucher to get a good price. However, a ride is not critical priority to us and we don't really want to be committed to a certain timeslot (just want to wander more leisurely this day) so therefore we really don't want to buy in advance. Do you think we will have a crazy wait in line if we don't pre-buy our tickets on a Wednesday evening in early April?
So the decision is between advance purchase at full price (can’t use 2-for-1) and buying walk-up tickets at 2-for-1 price.
Besides the cost savings of waiting to purchase on the day, you’ll have the time flexibility you noted, and you can see if the weather is conducive.
I’d wait.
Early evening might not be too bad, but avoid sunset as that is a popular time. On 10 April, London sunset is around 7:45.
April isn’t main tourist season, so the line may not be too bad at all. For flexibility, we generally wait until we get to a site to get a ticket.
I’ve been on the London Eye twice; the first time was when it was known as the British Airways London Eye, and the views were spectacular! The second time was last summer and I was rather disappointed with the Coca Cola London Eye experience; new construction has changed the views and the ride felt rather rushed and gimmicky at the very end (pod picture). The queue wasn’t bad if you had advanced tickets; the longest queue was for those who did not purchase their tickets in advance!
Thanks all for the replies...We'll wait and see how the day plays out. Appreciate your help!
