London, Edinburgh and ?

My husband and I will be visiting London and Edinburgh. We will be staying in London for nine days and Edinburgh for four days.

We we want to add one more stop for a few nights. We are thinking about Bath…

We plan to do a day trip to Cardiff from Bath and a day trip to the Cotswolds.

Our plan is to fly into London, then go to Bath and Edinburgh by train, then fly home out of Edinburgh.

I appreciate all suggestions about this idea.

York would be a lot easier to get to on this particular trip--right on the rail line between London and Edinburgh. Bath is doable, but the rail routing takes more time.

Bath is not a natural stop point - York is, followed probably by Lincoln. Both have excellent history

York wins hands down over Lincoln any time. It is a lot easier to reach by train than Lincoln. There's also a lot more to see and do in York.

We combined London, York and Edinburgh, which logistically work well together. We spent 4 nights in Bath last September and enjoyed it very much, but I think York makes more sense.

York would work.

I used to work for a company that had an office in Harrogate and I would highly recommend visiting it as well. Beautiful gardens and homes. I used to want to live in London but after seeing Yorkshire, I think I'd live up North first.

York is:
1- On the train line from E-burgh to London. It's all LNER, easy peasy.
a- Bath would either entail training to London, taking a Tube to switch to the GWR.
b- Take the Cross Country for 6.5 Hrs to Bristol then switch to the GWR to Bath.
2- AMAZING! The Minster, the Castle Museum, the snickleways, the walls, the Yorkshire accent, the food.

York and Lincoln, the latter is less Harry Potterised than the former. Bath, is out on a limb if going to Edinburgh.

I think York is an authentic place. Lots of people live there. Lincoln gets fewer visitors but there’s a reason for that.

Another vote for York it is a Must See.

Also, check out the Minster Hotel, walking distance to the great Minster.

I would not do a day trip to Cardiff from Bath. You should stay a night in Cardiff, see the Cardiff Castle, Museum of Welsh Life and take a short train ride to Caerphilly Castle.

Stratford Upon Avon is great, especially if you love Shakespeare.
