Heading to London for a few days after Paris and was thinking about an easy day trip away from all the business of the City. Any suggestions of a day trip that would be a more scenic trip. Something relaxing with beautiful views, quant shops, and nice restaurants. We would like to be able to go by train and would like to get there within a few hours at most.
Any suggestions.

Canterbury, York, Windsor, Oxford, Cambridge, are popular. Some people do day trips to Bath and/or Stonehenge. Plenty of options, so it really is just a question of what you prefer to do.

Salisbury, from which you can visit Stonehenge. Portsmouth would be another. I think York's too far for a day trip but some people do it I guess.

If going on one of the longer day trips - such as Bath or York - by train, you will find it cheaper to pre book advance tickets on specific trains - ideally around 11 weeks out as that is when the cheaper fares are loaded.
