anyone have thoughts of benefit of staying in Heathrow area hotel for pre tour extension time requiring flight connection out of heathrow vs just staying in central london? how easy and safe just to stay near heathrow at radisson blu airport hotel and tube back and forth even at night? thanks.
It's perfectly safe and relatively easy. But also in my opinion extremely boring.
I will overnight at the airport for one night for flight connections. Anything more than that I would stay in Central London.
I have stayed at airport hotels when I've arrived LHR late afternoon and have a morning flight out. As noted above, I wouldn't do this for multiple nights. Tube journey is long and multiple day expense back and forth can add up.
I've found Bloomsbury convenient for stays in London and access to LHR via Tube.
It's easy and safe enough, but the Radisson Blu is on the Bath road off the airport, so you end up changing off the tube or Elizabeth line either at Heathrow T2/3 or one of several local railway/tube stations then catching a local bus- many possible permutations. That is easy enough, but just adds time and complexity.
If you were going to stay at the airport you would ideally choose one of the on site hotels.
I agree with Carol - the only time I would stay at an airport hotel is if I have an early flight (or get in late). Otherwise, I prefer to stay in the city - it's much easier than traveling back and forth (and usually less expensive). Bloomsbury is a lovely area - I stayed there on both of my trips to London and really enjoyed it. It's a nice residential-looking area but near public transportation and some major sights.
thanks to all. We are going to find a hotel in Bloomsbury and trek back to Heathrow for the flight. Less stress and will save time....will need to walk off the English Breakfast anyway (if that is possible).
Just make sure that wherever you book is close to a direct route back to Heathrow to save time. I would look at hotels close to a Piccadilly line tube station or an Elizabeth Line station - doesn't have to be Bloomsbury.
